Axelle Red was born Fabienne Demal in Hasselt, Flanders, Belgium, on 15 February 1968. She is a singer-songwriter. Despite being Flemish, she chose to write and perform songs in the French language. She has achieved great critical success in both Belgium and France. Her musical style varies from jazz to piano ballads. Her musical idols as a youth were the pop group ABBA. She graduated as a lawyer (the same profession as her father) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), but she nevertheless felt more attracted to music, a passion of her mother (a pianist). Her first album, Sans plus attendre, sold 500 000 copies in Belgium alone (a record). The song "Sensualité" was her breakthrough hit in France.
