Venus and Mars in Dynamic Aspect

Astrological aspects: general introduction

The analysis of a natal chart must be as comprehensive as possible. This is what we do as we make our personalized reports available in our e-shop. It must be borne in mind that many astrologers concentrate on the interpretation of planets in signs and in houses, and of angles, without paying enough attention to aspects. On the contrary, we believe that when aspects involve personal planets between themselves or slow-moving planets, they are of fundamental importance. In all cases, they are at least as significant as the Ascendant or the Sun. This is particularly relevant when the orb is tight (i.e. when the aspect is exact). This is the criterion we apply for this new series of articles which describe how well-known personalities experience certain aspects.

Venus and Mars in challenging aspect

Mars and Venus represent an essential pair of planets. What hasn't been said about the terrible lovers of the zodiac? Everyone instinctively guesses, upon discovering their respective glyphs, that the first represents the quintessential masculine principle and the second, femininity.

Venus, an inner planet as viewed from Earth, essentially describes our affection, our ability to please, what attracts us. It symbolizes pleasant areas of life: pleasure, charm, aesthetic tastes, well-being, and our talents, or more precisely, our aptitudes.

At first glance, Venus has everything to seduce but can fall into certain pitfalls when it receives aspects of tension: it then becomes lascivious, manipulative, capricious, light and sulky, even complacent and selfish.

Mars, on the other hand, relates to our courage and our desire for action. As a counterpart to Venus, Mars also embodies desire. This planet, whether we are male or female, will allow us to undertake, to make our concrete decisions to achieve our goals, often with audacity. Mars is so direct that it does not take into account obstacles or people who stand in its way: it blows everything away like a tornado of Fire.

When these two planets are connected to each other by a dynamic aspect – square, opposition or conjunction in poor celestial condition – they ignite the powders and upset lives. The obvious and electric attraction between Mars and Venus always works but with sparks.

Busy conquering the person of interest, the native is not able to calmly manifest tenderness or be patient. In the end, this challenge often results in a passion that sweeps everything in its path because he/she shows abruptness, ingratitude and even a certain violence.

In some cases, the candidate born under this configuration attracts, unwillingly, excesses of this kind and is himself/herself a victim of this irresistible feeling that will cause him/her more harm than pleasure.

The Venus Mars dissonance also traditionally indicates, particularly through the square, that there is sometimes a creation of a barrier between affectivity and sexuality: one loves without desiring, or desires without loving. This does not detract from the intensity of the attraction felt.

Indeed, it is unnecessary to fear such an aspect more than necessary, which can be sublimated at maturity. It is about learning to overcome one's impulsiveness with this planetary duo and understanding that these impulses attributed classically to the feminine and masculine can coexist within a single person.

In any case, it is not this aspect of tension that prevents seduction, quite the contrary! It also helps to make encounters, and even if the approach is very dynamic, the relationship that results can sometimes last a lifetime, especially if other soothing and structuring factors exist in the theme, notably via Saturn, time, duration, or Jupiter, serene benevolence.

To better illustrate this aspect, we mention some well-known personalities. This article intentionally isolates the aspect in question (the square with a weak orb here, with four examples, because from our point of view it is more expressive than the opposition: Jodie Foster, Bruce Willis, Hillary Clinton, and John Travolta). For this reason, it claims on no account to be a psychological analysis of the celebrity in question, for whom many other articles are available in the "Focus" section.

It is possible to find thousands of other horoscopes having Venus in aspect of square, opposition, or unfavorable conjunction with Mars (or any other aspects), with the online tool search. The planets, positions in sign and in house as well as the orb, are configurable.

Jodie Foster

Intelligent and mysterious, Jodie Foster has led an atypical career. It is possible that her aura and talents have contributed to her taking paths different from those to which the film industry predestined her.

Revealed in 1976 when she was only 14 years old in Martin Scorsese's film Taxi Driver alongside Robert De Niro, she immediately conquered the public and critics.

Her maturity impresses and pushes her to make wise choices, but she doesn't avoid attracting the attention of a psychopath, John Hinckley. This neo-Nazi, who develops an unhealthy passion for her, will harass her for many months before being arrested (for another offense).

In confiding on the subject, Jodie Foster will ask the usual question of victims of such characters: why me?

Astrology has some answers, such as the fact that she has in her chart Venus in Scorpio and in the 11th house, almost exactly square Mars in Leo and in 8 (analogous sector to Scorpio, representing sexuality or violence). However, keep in mind that Mars is the second ruler of Scorpio and therefore has a hold on Venus. As it is conjunct Neptune, this aspect of tension maintains a sultry illusion and suggests that the actress could have been the plaything of an unhealthy fantasy.

Fortunately, Jodie Foster will know how to use other assets of her chart and calm the game. Heterosexual in the first part of her life and mother of two children, she will later come out many years later, at the Golden Globes, and before the #MeToo movement.

Although she has now mellowed, Jodie Foster has had loves that often started with a crush and ended up fizzling out. The typical Mars-Venus square.

Bruce Willis

Bruce Willis / Author : Caroline Bonarde Ucci 06-2007 / CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/deed.en)

Since his fame dating back to the 80s with notably the series Moonlighting alongside Cybill Shepherd, Bruce Willis has always alternated roles of perfect seducer and tough guy, ready to save the world.

The public identified him so much with this latter disposition that it was thought he could do it... in real life.

Today, we know that in his private life, he has recently become more fragile, having had to stop making films due to his cognitive memory problems.

In his youth, Bruce Willis became known for his appearances in advertisements very representative of the aspect in question: a commercial for jeans and another for a brand of female condoms!

He garnered his first successes through romantic comedies, then literally exploded with the Die Hard saga.

In him, a likable Venus in Aquarius and in sector 5 (love, children, recreational life) well illustrates the qualities he has taken on through the characters he has portrayed: wild generosity, especially towards children or those he must protect.

But this Venus is square Mars in Taurus and in 8, and devilishly sexualized in this position. The planet of action is strong here, because it is at home in terms of house rulership, allowing it to give its full measure.

This aspect can be associated with the image of the couple he formed with Demi Moore. They were like two survivors of a difficult start in life, who together overcame their trials.

Hooked on his sensual nature, his natal Mars exposes him to jealousy, while Venus wants to be as free as the wind. The contradictions he must have felt certainly explain their painful separation.

Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton / Author : Presidential file 1992 / Public domain

How much trouble Hillary Clinton, a brilliant lawyer and wife of the infamous philandering president Bill Clinton, did she have to go through?

At the time, it was often said that she literally carried him to the presidency before attempting the venture herself later on.

As strategic as a Scorpio native can be down to her fingertips, Hillary Clinton has always harbored an exacerbated taste for power. Her Venus in this sign, conjunct Mercury in house 6, forms a square with an unpleasant Mars, conjunct Saturn and Pluto in Leo and right on the Imum Coeli (the home, origins, roots). This aspect strikingly confirms the battles she had to wage and the personal sacrifices she made.

In her case, this natal Mars represents the thoughtless and impulsive sides of her husband, unable to control his libido without considering the risks involved. The peak of the problem is obviously the Monica Lewinsky affair, which resulted in Bill Clinton being summoned before the Supreme Court of the United States. He lied in an almost childish manner about his infidelity and was unmasked.

While he was ultimately able to get off relatively lightly, remaining head of state, Hillary Clinton had to endure a surely very painful global public affront.

Fortunately, such a configuration releases enough energy for her to be able to take control of her destiny. An opportunity she will not quite have regarding her political career, since, despite being the favorite in all the polls against Donald Trump in 2016, she will still end up losing the supreme election.

To this day, she is still known for her own very rich, if not exceptional, professional career, and not just for her role as First Lady.

She was notably a senator for the state of New York and Secretary of State during the Obama era. In summary, Hillary Clinton has known both shadow and light. It will likely be so until the end.

John Travolta

John Travolta / Author : Towpilot 09-1983 / CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/deed.en

When young John Travolta, son of a Sicilian immigrant, hit the dance floor in Saturday Night Fever, he set the entire planet ablaze for quite some time.

With Olivia Newton-John, his partner in Grease, he permanently entered the disco legend, for better or worse. Indeed, while he triggers hysteria in the 70s and early 80s, the end of this era marks a certain decline for him in Hollywood.

A cruel world for his Venus in Pisces in the 8th house, square to Fire Mars, in Sagittarius in the 5th house. This delicate Venus, exalted in the sign, confronts the idea of finality which is very unpleasant for its Pisces nature. She can also prove to be excessively sacrificial, not without harshness with this Mars involved in a square.

However, he will bounce back in 1994 in Tarantino's film Pulp Fiction, and his famous dance with his partner Uma Thurman will indeed become eternally iconic.

In his private life, John Travolta long lived a deeply connected love with his wife, Kelly Preston. But he will be caught up by tragedy: he first lost his son due to a heart condition. His attachment to the Church of Scientology cast an additional shadow on this death.

Then his wife succumbed to cancer on July 12, 2020, at the age of 57.

Since then, John Travolta has become more discreet. Modest, he seldom confides in his feelings.
