Uranus transits Taurus and its meaning

Uranus's arrival in Taurus

On 15 May 2018, at 5:24 p.m. GMT, Uranus enters Taurus and will stay there during nearly seven years. We can have an idea of the impact of this planet between that date and 6 November 2018, when Uranus will move backwards in Aries to tie up loose ends. He will then sojourn in Taurus from March 2019 till 2026 (with a first transit in Gemini). In short, more than ever, the planet of change in the second zodiacal sign promises surprising events.

What you should know about Uranus

To begin with, let us recall a few principles. Uranus is the first trans-Saturn planet. It was discovered in 1781 by William Herschel. Its name is related to the Roman deity Ouranos, the God of the heavens, who was at the same time Saturn's father and Jupiter's grandfather. Astrologers value these facts for many reasons.

Firstly, the heavenly nature of Uranus fits the spiritual values he carries, for he is the higher octave of Mercury. His role is collective, because the charts of several generations of people have Uranus in the same sign. However, once Uranus' House and various aspects are analysed, the interpretation is more personalised.

Ouranos

Secondly, the fact that Uranus was reckoned with on the eve of the French revolution and the United States Declaration of Independence also illustrates the deeply disruptive role of the rebel of the zodiac.

His cycle lasts 84 years. It should be noted that it is similar to the duration of human lives. When transiting Uranus reaches the degree of his natal position, usually in the middle of a lifetime, psychologists often mention the mid-life crisis. This is an additional indication that the role of Uranus is to unsettle us so that we can evolve.

To carry on with concepts, the planet is tightly linked to Aquarius, the sign it rules, and to the 11th House, which contains the same type of principles. Uranus is in exaltation in Scorpio and in fall in Taurus, the sign he is about to transit.

He symbolises explosive energies, the first quality of which is to sweep away the past in order to be renewed and to start afresh. One understands that the planet flouts established rights and laws. Owing to its nature, it wants to renovate and to do things differently. Its aim is to rid us of our useless rags.

In a natal chart, Uranus indicates the area where we claim our share of freedom. His impact depends also on the sign in which he is posited.

Uranus in Taurus

Taurus sign

According to the tradition, the affinities between Uranus and the second zodiacal sign are not too obvious, since Uranus is in "his fall", which means that his power is challenged. This is easy to understand because Taurus is an Earth sign which yearns to quietly enjoy its possessions and wishes to anchor its happiness in the matter so that it becomes more tangible. Uranus is interested only in the mind and despises worldly goods.

As he leaves Aries, where he ran his course since 2011, Uranus offers us a new chapter. What will it be made of? Before any anticipation, let us review the historical events happening when the same transits occurred.

Past transits of Uranus in Taurus

From 1850 to 1859: during those years, there were notable events such as the rise of communism nearly everywhere in Europe and in the United States, the return of the omnipotence of Napoleon with the proclamation of the Second Empire, the Crimea war opposing Russia and the alliance formed by England, France, and the Ottoman regime. We could add a much longer list, but the above provides several major indications about the Uranus-Taurus combination.

the Napoleonic power

From 1934 to 1942: the period was generally marked by chaos worldwide. In the wake of the economic difficulties which lingered after the 1929 crash, many extremist regimes came to power: Franco, Mussolini, Hitler, then the establishment of the Vichy regime. After a policy of isolationism, the United States went to war after the Pearl Harbour attack in 1941.

To sum up, if the two periods are characterised by tough aspects, it would be a mistake to think that the years ahead of us are likely to bear such tragic consequences. Indeed, if future events were to unfold identically, all the other planetary aspects would be identical too.

Nevertheless, we must keep in mind that some key-areas which underwent Uranian upheavals linked to Taurus may be on the agenda again: finance, agriculture, and the temptation of totalitarianism for example.

On the other hand, still in reference to the past, we can expect that this influence will improve our resources such as for instance in the area of subsoil discovering. In 1850, the rush gold was at its height. The large-scale exploitation of oil started during this transit of Uranus in Taurus, shortly before 1860.

Regarding money, its circuits gathered momentum with the race to wealth, positively and negatively, during both periods, especially that of the New Deal. Franklin D. Roosevelt's interventionist policy reactivated the dynamism of the American economy after the Great Depression, even though the impact of Uranus has been probably slowed down by Taurus' cumbersome system, since we are thinking mainly of the effects occurring after 1935.

Uranus in Taurus: the difficulty to adjust

Uranus and a tornado

After seven years during which his capacity to accelerate found a favourable soil in Aries, Uranus is stepping on a solid, even heavy ground. Is there a danger of damage, since Uranus' attribute is to make a clean sweep of everything, like a tornado? At first, many people will be prompted to resist the changes. However, let us face it, such reaction will be totally useless. Although Uranus' effects are usually tough, they are impossible to foresee, for unpredictability is the nature of the planet. Nevertheless, we have a few indications.

At a personal level, depending on the natal chart

Uranus in Taurus: assets to develop

Although we do not conceal the difficulties linked to the lack of compatibility between Uranus and the sign of Taurus, there are a few positive points. On a personal level, those looking for independence will be satisfied. They will have to set aside the need for enrichment, at least if it is not based on the respect of things. On the other hand, working with efficiency and at the same time with flexibility encourages creativity, even though the nature of the sign and that of the planet are radically different: it is concrete for the former, and conceptual for the latter.

A technological innovation: the drone

Therefore, those able to use innovation to put a new value on traditional trades and know-how, sometimes manual crafts, will succeed.

It will be necessary to take risks with one's money, and to understand that its purpose is to encourage its expansion in full independence. Unusual or alternative areas are most likely to benefit from Uranus' shift of sign.

To conclude on valuables, let us add that Uranus will dust them off thoroughly. The physical bond with one's natal land, with the State, may weaken for many of us. At a private level, the tendency will be in favour of new forms of attachment, with less right on one's partner, yet with a great deal of respect and loyalty. It will probably be easier to break free of one's conditioning, at least if the natal chart concurs with the meaning of Uranus in Taurus.
