Mars and Saturn in favorable aspect

Astrological aspects: general introduction

The analysis of a natal chart must be as comprehensive as possible. This is what we do as we make our personalized reports available in our e-shop. It must be borne in mind that many astrologers concentrate on the interpretation of planets in signs and in houses, and of angles, without paying enough attention to aspects. On the contrary, we believe that when aspects involve personal planets between themselves or slow-moving planets, they are of fundamental importance. In all cases, they are at least as significant as the Ascendant or the Sun. This is particularly relevant when the orb is tight (i.e. when the aspect is exact). This is the criterion we apply for this new series of articles which describe how well-known personalities experience certain aspects.

Mars and Saturn in harmonious aspect

Traditional astrologers have always seen diametrically opposed elementary qualities in Mars and Saturn.

The first is the action-oriented warrior archetype. The dignities planet Aries, represents both the primary instincts, the assumed masculinity (also for women, either through the partner or for their own yang energy).

Mars is associated with will and courage: it encourages to undertake everything to favor a prompt achievement.

Saturn, the last planet in the solar system that can be observed with the naked eye, with its magnificent rings, is known to be social, as it usually concerns collective consciousness. It provides information on the ability to structure and plan in the long run, after having learned the lessons from the past.

This planet represents rigor, which has suffered from a rather dubious reputation of being a bogeyman. However, only Saturn ensures the solidity of the foundation and long-term goals because it moves forward on a serious foundation, which has been verified and tested through caution.

We can summarize the roles of these two stars by speaking of action for Mars and construction for Saturn. The decision to take action for one, persistent efforts for the other.

They are considered disturbing because when they are in conflict with other objects of the theme (planets or angles), they manage to create some damage, as they force you to modify your choices and your way of being under the threats of punishments in life. Mars, because we have been careless and the consequences are quick (physical or moral injuries, conflicts), and Saturn because we haven't properly prepared our projects (lack of self-confidence, difficulties which weren't properly considered).

When these unloved planets meet in a positive relationship (unafflicted conjunction, sextile, and trine), they are, on the other hand, a major asset in the astral chart, because they allow you to play on both sides. Strength and endurance.

This positive duo leads to a well-structured personality, capable of separating things through composure and rigor, channeling their actions as well as possible to achieve the goal, even if it takes time. This is where Saturn's reason and calm temper the warlike flame and tame the potential violence of Mars.

At the same time, Mars's audacity opens the barriers set up by Saturn for perfect control, which is mainly noticeable in the sectors that are represented by the houses where the aspect is formed.

In order to better explain this aspect, we are mentioning several well-known personalities (here Matt Damon (trine), Queen Camilla (sextile), Leonardo da Vinci (trine), and Katy Perry (sextile)). This article deliberately isolates the aspects so as to better describe them. For this reason, it claims on no account to be a psychological analysis of the celebrity in question, for whom many other articles are available in the "Focus" section.

It is possible to find thousands of other horoscopes having Mars and Saturn in favorable aspect (or any other aspects), with the online tool search. The planets, positions in sign and in house as well as the orb, are configurable.

Matt Damon

Let's begin with an actor who played the hero of a saga with the perfect title to illustrate this aspect: Matt Damon, unveiled in Saving Private Ryan. This is a war film – typical Mars genre – directed by Steven Spielberg, which begins with the recollections of a veteran of World War II, a Saturnian role if ever there was one.

Having become a star in the process, Matt Damon was able to perfectly use the asset of his beautiful trine between Saturn in Taurus and in the 3rd house with Mars in Virgo and in house 7.

In Earth signs, both planets can express the best of their potential in regard to achievement.

The origins of Matt Damon are evocative in this area since his father was a real-estate agent who worked for the tax authorities, while his mother was a sports teacher. We can assume that he inherited the qualities of his two parents, respectively due to Saturn and Mars.

Without reiterating his entire successful prolific career, we can note that he always knew how to get a grip on his destiny and choose promising roles.

When he started his career, given that he was not offered the role he always dreamed of, he wrote it himself with his friend Ben Affleck. The excellent film Will Hunting, directed by Gus Van Sant, told the story of a rebellious mathematical genius – and he incarnated the latter - a scenario which clearly relates to a valued position of Saturn in sector 3.

We should also mention his pleasant but almost ordinary physique, that did not make him the leading man, but which has improved with age.

Today, he remains quite similar to a somewhat geeky student and does not flaunt his successes. However, he is one of the richest and most esteemed personalities in the world of cinema.

Queen Camilla

The case of Queen Camilla is very interesting, as it is the illustration of the positive influence that Saturn can have when it is well supported.

Dominant in her chart, joined to the Ascendant, the planet illustrates the following proverb for Camilla: "time will prove you right". In fact, patience has not been an empty word for the one who long lived her love with Charles of England behind the scenes.

In the 1970s, Queen Elizabeth wanted her eldest son to marry a young woman who had everything it took to be a future queen. However, this was far from being the case with Camilla Parker-Bowles: a year older than Charles, pleasant looking without being the prettiest or the most graceful lady, she smoked, and most of all, she was already engaged on her side with Andrew Parker Bowles.

Therefore, Charles agreed to marry Diana, on Camilla's advice who then turns into a power behind the throne and confidante of the prince.

But we must also consider the role of Mars, which spices up this relationship, supported by their common interests of the 11th house, where the planet is located (polo, associative circles).

Saturn's wisdom then allowed the two lovers to accept their fate until the day when the revelations of Diana, the divorce and the death of the latter, changed the situation. Charles ended up marrying Camilla in 2005, 35 years after their affair, with the utmost discretion. Time was truly their ally.

For her, the sextile of Mars in the Midheaven and the trine to Neptune acted as a powerful lever. Since then, Queen Camilla seems destined to accompany the new king, right until the end.

Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci / Author : presumed Self-portrait 1512 Public domain / CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0)

Although born in 1452, the Renaissance genius Leonardo da Vinci offers us a precise horoscope, which is also a splendid illustration of the benefits of the Mars-Saturn relation. With it comes to him, the two planets are not dominant, but they have the merit of being in a pure aspect, where no other force can intervene.

Saturn is important because it is placed in Libra, in exaltation, and in the 10th house (but not on the MC), where it is comfortable, while Mars is in Aquarius and in the 2nd house.

Being a native of Aries, Leonardo da Vinci has the Sun under the regency of Mars, which explains his groundbreaking predispositions. These are added to the Saturnian qualities, reinforcing his scientific gifts, at the peak of his artistic talent.

In his way of working, this influence is mainly confirmed by the meticulousness with which he studied nature and human expression. Thus, he has left behind a major amount of work, which didn't satisfy him, as he was extremely demanding. He resumed his works almost tirelessly (Saturn) showing an inexhaustible energy (Mars).

Till date, he remains a symbol of the universal spirit of the Renaissance, single-handedly personifying this era filled with progress.

Last but not least, it should be noted that Leonardo da Vinci was not far from concrete realities since he knew perfectly well how to gain the trust of his sponsors. With Mars in house 2, he was aware of the value of his work.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry / Author : marcen27 from Glasgow, UK / 05-2014 / CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0)

Even if it is not obvious to those who discovered her when she was already a star, Katy Perry paradoxically comes from a very conservative Pentecostal family.

However, she bears the mark of the latter in her astral chart, mainly with a powerful Saturn in house 1, conjunct with Mercury who is on the Ascendant, and in sextile with Mars, in Capricorn and in house 3.

Even today, Katy Perry refuses to identify herself with a specific religion, but she does admit that she needs to pray all the time in order to find serenity, self-control, and humility (quote in Marie-Claire of December 2013).

Through these confessions, she thus illustrates another form of benefit from this link between Mars and Saturn: a wise way of considering one's actions, triggered by an inner faith.

Beyond dance pop, far from the lineage of this aspect, we must take note of the solid and sustainable career, which began during adolescence. For her too, time and perseverance were her allies.

Katy is one of the artists who has sold the most records till date (in 2023) - almost 150 million worldwide - and is one of the most followed personalities on Twitter, with more than 100 million followers.

Her personality leans on sincerity and determination, behind a rather glamorous and at times rebellious appearance.
