The Ascendant in Sagittarius and Taste for Journeys
Diana Spencer is still on many front pages. 25 years after her death, she arouses numerous passions and storms. The most recent one involves the BBC, because Martin Bashir, one of its star reporters, may have manipulated the princess during the explosive interview that she granted the TV channel in 1995.
Let us see if the chart of this young British girl, born in a noble family on 1st July 1961, had anything as special as her destiny.
Astrologers are not disappointed, for many features immediately draw the attention. Firstly, let us note the contradictions displayed in the sky map. Diana had the Sun in Cancer, the Ascendant in Sagittarius, and the Moon in Aquarius: a combination gathering one of the shyest and gentlest signs with two others which do as they please.
Cancer gave Diana her naivety and her closeness with young people or the most destitute ones. Besides, she started to work as a childminder in a good family, then she was employed in a kindergarten before her royal marriage. It was with the candor of a young virgin that she was dazzled by Charles, a princely catch 13 years her senior, without realizing what such a marriage would imply. In her defense, her supposedly conciliatory Cancer facets were also considered an asset by the Crown. They imagined that Diana would be satisfied with a family life, and would be too humble and mellow to upstage anybody.
This was without considering her Ascendant in Sagittarius, which manifested itself through a tendency to rock the apple cart. It is already possible to attribute to this Fire sign her taste for sports and dance, two areas she was fond of when she was a teenager.
Later on, at the Prince of Wales' side, we appeared serene during their numerous trips all over the world. She managed to adjust to different cultures with so much ease that she disconcerted everyone.
Lastly, when she really took charge of her destiny, her journeys aiming at banning anti-personal mines, in Angola then in Bosnia, have been the highlights of the late nineties.
The Moon in Aquarius Stamps the Modern Version of a Princess
This leads us to mention the Moon in Aquarius, a progressive and sometimes revolutionary sign. The Moon endowed Diane with the humanism which prompted her to fight for causes dear to her heart with authenticity, without seeking any form of reconnaissance. She was perhaps the first top personality who committed herself the way she did in the modern world and its media coverage. She knew how to use it, in the best sense of the word, to break deadlocks.
It is most likely that this empathy was all the more intense that Diana was striving to fill the emptiness or the malaise of her private life at that moment. The burden of her new duties was considerable for this person born with the Sun in Cancer; undoubtedly, she succeeded in balancing this heavy responsibility thanks to the Moon in Aquarius.
The chart is also supported by the nice aspect Neptune forms in the 10th House with Mercury in the 7th House. No other planetary relationships can suggest better a marriage at the same time royal and romantic.
However, Neptune exposed Diana to delusions – particularly regarding the values of her couple – since he is in square with Jupiter in the 2nd House. Diana's great dreams of harmony were outweighed by the royal family and the rules it imposed.
The fact that Saturn, posited in the first House, very near the 2nd, and extremely powerful in Capricorn, was also in a tense aspect with the Midheaven, confirms a generational gap and hampered hopes to achieve serenity and to get along well with this family.
A Challenged Venus in Taurus
Let us analyze Diana's dominant planet, Venus, which is not surprising, given the princess's charm and seductive power. We find again the characteristics of this planet in the personality of the person who claimed the status of Queen of hearts.
Venus, who rules the Midheaven, and is comfortable in Taurus, gave Diana an interest for beautiful things, jewelry, and the way she looked.
However, Venus forms a challenging aspect, known as T-square, with the Moon, Uranus, and to a lesser extent, Mars, (who is nevertheless in a therefore compatible Fire sign.) All this disrupts the exchanges between the planets of femininity, i.e. Venus and the Moon, exposing Diana to the consequences of her infatuations and to scandals. Indeed, the Moon partly refers to popularity and the way one comes across.
In light of the above, it has been difficult for the princess to find the stability and the faithfulness she certainly yearned for, Venus being in Taurus and in trine with Saturn, lastingness, responsibility.
Precisely, her husband, Charles, was born with the Sun in Scorpio and the Ascendant in Leo, two signs hostile to Diana's Venus.
Finally, in her case, it would be difficult not to mention aspects marked by some level of fatality, namely Mars in conjunction with Uranus, and Pluto in the 8th, both of them in conjunction with the North Node on one side, while Uranus is on the other side, in the 8th too.
This House relates to crises, sometimes to death, which may be violent given the three planets notorious for their severe effects, in addition to the Uranus-Mars aspect. When Mars is in a dangerous configuration, he predisposes to unexpected events and sometimes to accidents of mechanical nature (airplane, car, etc.). Nevertheless, we believe that no aspect in itself is deadly. Besides, these planets have also endowed Diana with the determination required to overcome her fears.
The sandwiched position of the North Node, of a karmic essence for those fond of this fatalistic part of astrology, may be considered to be a call of fate; she was probably attracted to trials of strength and danger.
Numerous Harsh Transits on the Day of Her Disparition
On 31 August 1997, date of Diana's death, the exact time of which is known (0:23 A.M., Paris time for the accident itself, and 4:00 A.M. for the actual death), the astrologer observes that extremely perilous transits were prevailing. Indeed, Pluton was in square with Mars, mundane Mars had just passed across natal Neptune in the 10th House, and even mundane Neptune, on natal Saturn, not forgetting Uranus on natal Jupiter.
Moreover, the position of the luminaries is unsettling – as well as that of the Black Moon – in the 8th (House of crises and death).
In the solar arc directions' chart, one also remarks a Saturn-Mars opposition with the superimposition of the Lunar Nodes, a square from Mars to the Sun – Mercury conjunction. In addition, in the solar revolution, Mars is in square with the Midheaven, while, simultaneously, Pluto in the 3rd (short trips) is in opposition with the Moon.
Without elaborating further on the analysis, it is obvious that this day was special and a bad omen for her destiny. The rest belongs to history, but it is certain that the Venusian Diana will remain forever a beloved and endearing princess.
