The Moon and Venus in tense aspect

Astrological aspects: general introduction

The analysis of a natal chart must be as comprehensive as possible. This is what we do as we make our personalized reports available in our e-shop. It must be borne in mind that many astrologers concentrate on the interpretation of planets in signs and in houses, and of angles, without paying enough attention to aspects. On the contrary, we believe that when aspects involve personal planets between themselves or slow-moving planets, they are of fundamental importance. In all cases, they are at least as significant as the Ascendant or the Sun. This is particularly relevant when the orb is tight (i.e. when the aspect is exact). This is the criterion we apply for this new series of articles which describe how well-known personalities experience certain aspects.

The Moon and Venus in challenging aspect

The aspect of the Moon and Venus in tradition combines two essentially receptive planets connected to feminine energy.

The Moon, symbolizing our inner world, instinctual needs, imagination, and emotions, differs from the Sun by not prompting us to action, while playing a vital role in astrological profiles to define character.

In resonance with the nurturing and maternal principle, it illuminates our position regarding these notions and shows our relationship with maternity and our offspring.

Sometimes, the Moon provides indications about our perception of our mother - which does not necessarily correspond to what she is in reality.

Men are just as concerned as women by their natal Moon, describing how they behave with their mother and the female gender, and also what qualities they seek from their life partner.

Negatively, in terms of personality, the Moon signals a willful, susceptible, childish, lazy, nonchalant, or fearful temperament.

On the other hand, Venus, although largely symbolic of love, also encompasses themes of pleasures, seduction, the pursuit of harmony and beauty in all areas, as well as virtues of kindness, propriety, and diplomacy.

For a man, Venus embodies the characteristics likely to draw him both physically and emotionally to a woman, while in a woman's chart, it indicates how she can enhance her appeal.

However, Venus carries its shadows, such as envy, complacency, jealousy, futility, hypocrisy, materialism, and, of course, infidelity.

When the Moon and Venus are associated with a tension aspect, this configuration does not pose a significant threat in an astrological analysis. This dissonant assembly suggests an excess of receptive values, which can manifest, depending on the rest of the analysis, as an inclination towards nonchalance, laxity, a taste for luxury, or whims.

In some cases, this discordant planetary duo induces a form of dissatisfaction with life's demands, but also for pleasures. One might take the good things for granted or show oneself to be ungrateful and selfish.

Note that such a dynamic aspect reveals contradictions between the desire to please, sensually or sentimentally (Venus), and the search for daily understanding (the Moon). The key to overcoming this contradiction therefore lies in discovering ways to deal with these character traits, both for oneself and one's partner, in order to navigate the relationship with serenity.

In order to better explain this aspect, we are mentioning several well-known personalities (here Diana Spencer (square), George Lucas (square), Lana Del Rey (square), and Louis XIV (unfavorable conjunction)). This article deliberately isolates the aspect so as to better describe them. For this reason, it claims on no account to be a psychological analysis of the celebrity in question, for whom many other articles are available in the "Focus" section.

It is possible to find thousands of other horoscopes having the Moon in tense aspect with Venus (or any other aspects), with the online tool search. The planets, positions in sign and in house as well as the orb, are configurable.

Diana Spencer

Diana Spencer / Author : Nick Parfjonov 04-2013 / Public domain

Regarding her, everything has been said; Diana Spencer forever remains the princess of hearts to all her admirers, profoundly saddened by her loss.

From an astrological standpoint, let's delve into her natal Moon in Aquarius, which forms a square with Venus in Taurus. The key to understanding this aspect lies in grasping the rulerships since the Moon rules her natal Sun in Cancer, while Venus reigns in its domicile. Thus, the two planets jostle for prominence, the Moon urging her to assert her independence, while Venus whispers the necessity of unleashing her charm to captivate attention.

Venus encourages her to forsake cardigans and other demure pleated skirts in favor of a fashion style that remains iconic, reflecting the feminine chic of the 90s. Meanwhile, under the Moon's influence, Diana commits herself to advocating for the oppressed and conflict victims.

She shakes the fundamental codes of her royal image by taking a stand against the ravages of landmines. She also chooses to be photographed shaking hands with an AIDS patient in the hospital, defying the myths circulating about this scourge.

In essence, Diana had to navigate a significant part of her life amid the conflicting tensions within her: allure at all costs, independence, a need for unpredictability and renewal, humanitarian causes, and emotional security, this Moon-Venus ensemble being challenging to reconcile.

George Lucas

George Lucas / Author : Neon Tommy 11-2011 / CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/deed.en)

Taurus is undeniably the pivotal sign for George Lucas, with the Sun angular in house 1, framing the Ascendant with Venus. The planet is thus in the sign it rules, exceptionally potent, even if partially contravened, as we shall explain.

This position evidently illuminates his interest in the artistic world. Although his father wished to see him pursue commerce, George Lucas carved his own path by enrolling in university to study film. Embracing the role of producer and director, he channels the concrete talent of the second sign of the zodiac into tangible investments.

The Moon, culminating in Aquarius, confirms the significance of the seventh art in his career, and even more, of science fiction, a domain strongly connoted by this sign. Thus, Star Wars grants him this status of global celebrity.

However, the dissonance between Venus and the Moon foretells conflicts of interest that will speckle his journey. Despite his successes, George Lucas will frequently disagree with the studios, offended when they reject a project. He also does not forgive what he perceives as their utter lack of creativity. Meanwhile, Taurus tends to hold a grudge.

In another realm, the tensions between the Moon and Venus also manifest in his emotional life. George Lucas sometimes maintains complex relationships with women, often peppered with material issues.

His divorce will cost him dearly at the time, at least in value, but not in relation to what he possessed. Indeed, George Lucas is among the wealthiest people on the planet today, with about 5 billion dollars.

That being said, and it's quite rare to underline, it seems to us that his time of birth may not be entirely accurate. Examining his house 2 (the money earned through effort) with a dissonant Saturn, its ruler, Mercury, also dissonant, and continuing with house 8 (investments and inheritances) and its ruler Jupiter, still dissonant, the chart is incompatible, for the houses, with that of the wealthiest filmmaker in the world...

Making him born between 7:10 am and 8:35 am, with Mars in 2 sextile to the Sun, energy at the service of will and gains through work, could, on the other hand, be suitable.

This does not detract from the aspect analysis that is done here for Moon Venus, but it's an additional query that was legitimate to raise.

Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey / Author : Lana Del Rey 03-2023 / CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/deed.en)

The artist with the unique talent was born with a beautiful Venus in Taurus, angular in house 7. At first glance, this suggests a positive reception of her works both from her contractual partners and the public.

However, a Moon in Leo comes to thwart Venus's plans. In Lana Del Rey's case, these frictions between the two planets stem from a contradictory need for recognition. The Moon in Leo pushes her to assert herself somewhat excessively, while Venus, at home but under siege, adopts a lazy, proud, and languid posture.

A duality perceptible in her complex relationship with fame, which she seems to seek and reject at the same time. Self-taught, recognized for her voice and songwriting abilities, the singer has thus always struggled to find lasting serenity, no doubt partly because of this obstacle.

At fifteen, she already faced alcohol problems: now, her Venus, caught between the fires of Jupiter and Saturn, announces a real challenge concerning pleasures in general, either through restrictions or by going overboard.

The Moon is a bit less concerned, as luckily for her, Saturn is too distant to form a square with it. Nevertheless, the emphasized Fixed mode tends to give her a certain obstinacy in her downfalls.

On tour in 2023-2024, a few anecdotes indicate that she remains adored by her fans, but with the same questions.

Fortunately, there is a strong chance that the singer will resolve her difficulties over time, helped in this by a trine from the ruler of her chart, Pluto, at home, to the Sun in sector 8, which brings her will, determination, and the ability to transform.

Louis XIV

Louis XIV / Author : Charles Le Brun 1661-1662 / Public domain

Let's travel back in time to meet Louis XIV, the most emblematic King of France in the era of absolutism, born under the modest Virgo, a surprise in itself.

Not so much if we examine his biographies, for the King is of a shy nature, reminiscent of his father Louis XIII and his successors Louis XV and Louis XVI. He dreads conflicts and scenes, which leads him to surround himself with increasingly subdued and compliant ministers.

Now, let's look at his captivating conjunction between the Moon and Venus in Leo, the zodiac sign most craving public attention.

The duo is opposed to Saturn, which despises ostentation, and square to Jupiter which, on the contrary, encourages all excesses. The Sun, ruler of these two planets, is not angular, but is found in house 10, the sector related to social life. Indeed, all of the Sun King's actions were carried out with the concern to make history and assert power.

We will not detail his politics but rather focus on the domains concerned by the Moon-Venus duo. The construction of the Palace of Versailles symbolizes his excessive taste for splendor. Thus, he surrounds himself with the best professionals of the time to realize his grandiose dream (very Leo).

Louis XIV is also sensitive to cultural prestige by becoming the patron of artists such as Molière, Racine, Lully, and André Le Nôtre. The King intends to control the way he is perceived, demanding that music and literature pay tribute to him.

While he takes pleasure in seeing the flatterers of his court criticized, ridiculing him is not in anyone's best interest. Molière understood this very well.

Finally, the choice of his royal mistresses, at least fifteen, also reflects the action of this afflicted Moon-Venus conjunction in Leo. The Marquise de Montespan, triumphant and dominating, represents this best from 1667 to 1681.

The opposition of Saturn to the Moon-Venus duo, square to Jupiter, the excesses, can be interpreted by the radical change of the king, in the years 1682, who shifts from libertinism to devotion, under the combined influence of his confessors, the Affair of the Poisons, and Madame de Maintenon.
