Mercury, Isolated Planet, Influences the Whole Personality
Niall Horan, a member of a very famous boy band, One Direction, has a natal chart displaying several quite interesting peculiarities.
Born with the Sun in Virgo, he is marked by a strong component of Mercury, this planet being in domicile and posited almost exactly on the angle of the Ascendant. Mobility, adaptability, and perhaps even a certain intellectual youth totally suit this planet, as well as the kind of music and the public the singer deals with.
Mercury draws all the more attention because he is unaspected in the chart, meaning that he forms no major aspects with the other planets, even though he is in square with two angles, the Midheaven and the Ascendant. Indeed, an unaspected planet releases all its power, with neither constraint nor influence, when it has no physical link with the rest of the sky map, the angles being only receiving points.
Therefore, Mercury is in a paradoxical situation, for he represents at the same time an obvious asset but also an indicator of instability.
To begin with, we observe that Mercury's nature expressed itself early in Horan's life. The latter was quite young when his parents divorced. He grew up shifting from one home to the other. One may deduce that Mercury's duality already impacted his personality before he decided to live with his father for good.
Very quickly, Horan showed an artistic disposition, particularly toward drama and music. He hesitated with ease between two sources of interest. It was when he participated in a British singing contest, X Factor, that he made decisive encounters.
Although he did not win – nevertheless, he went quite far in the competition – he found his future companions, and with three of them, he formed a group which became One Direction.
They were rapidly successful. Besides, precocity is one of the other gifts of Mercury. However, there was a slight setback, and the singer confessed that he had an obsessive-compulsive disorder and that he suffered from anxiety. Such episodes of nervousness are part of Mercury's usual "package".
Venus and the Sign of Libra Prompt Horan to Charm
Horan has an exacerbated desire to attract. On the one hand, the Ascendant is in Libra, which always gives extreme sensitivity to people's appreciation. When in addition the Sun is in Virgo, perfectionism takes over, and there is a deep feeling that efforts to achieve a reassuring level of demand were always insufficient.
Fortunately for Horan, natal Venus, ruler of the chart, is in Leo, a sign of self-assertiveness and of a certain awareness of his self-worth.
This planet is posited in a characteristic House of Horan's path, that of associations, and is in conjunction with the Moon, which usually brings about good popularity. The Moon is also is sextile with Jupiter and Mars.
Nevertheless, Venus is in apposition with Saturn in the 5th, and in square with Pluto; a few disillusionments are to be expected, particularly when transits or directions activate the natal T-square thus formed.
To sum up, Leo, the sign sheltering two feminine planets, counterbalances Libra's most suggestible sides and lessens Virgo's shyness or natural discretion.
As Horan achieved success, he saw that his self-assurance was strengthened. For several years, he has been pursuing a solo career with excellent results.
The Jupiter-mars Conjunction Endows with Dynamism
Some planets greatly support Horan's ambitions. In the 1st House, related to personality, is posited the Jupiter-Mars duet. These planets together increase the sense of action.
Moreover, they form harmonious and at the same time difficult aspects with others. They are in trine with Saturn, who is in the 5th, pointing to long-lasting potential, especially regarding creation.
As mentioned above, they are in sextile with Venus, who rules the Ascendant. From this perspective, Horan's capacity to use his artistic skills, especially on stage, is encouraged.
The hindrance to all this comes from the square Jupiter and Mars send to another duet, Uranus and Neptune in Capricorn. The aspect being quite exact, at some time, there is a risk that Horan does not meet anymore the expectations or the fashion of his day.
Uranus indicates unforeseen events one has no control over, and Neptune relates to the spirit of the times, to the crowd. Because Uranus and Neptune are in the 4th House, this hurdle may also mean angst stemming from family roots or badly-experienced change of environment.
Upcoming Transits Are a Mixed Bag for the Singer
For some time, Horan has been undergoing the diffuse influence of the opposition of Neptune with the natal Sun. Very often, this transit does not manifest visibly. Instead, there is a vague yet disturbing feeling of dissatisfaction (more or less intense depending of individuals).
One may also have the impression of being disappointed by everything without knowing precisely why. In addition, the singer has just come out of transits challenging his Jupiter - Mars duet, with the trio in Capricorn which has worked hard to thwart Horan's attempts to take action in 2020.
Although 2021 seems less aggressive, Horan must face the tensions coming from Uranus in Taurus already affecting his Moon in Leo and in the 11th House, and progressively impacting Venus. As a result, it is most likely that some projects will not be implemented, and a few unexpected disappointments caused by friends will be destabilizing.
Horan will need to be wary of the return of Saturn, the typical cycle of people of nearly thirty-year old, bearing in mind that the planet of limitations will form again a natal opposition with Venus, who is so important for Horan. This will occur in 2022, a year when his resistance capacities and his desire for success will be severely put to the test.
