Couple's Compatibility and Synastry

In a Synastry, or analysis of the couple, the natal charts of both partners are superimposed and describe their relationship. Synastry is helpful in understanding why two persons are particularly fond of each other, or on the contrary, why they do not click and why indifference prevails between them.

To that aim, it is necessary to first analyse the partners' chart separately, and then to overlay both charts and compare them. Astrology is a tremendously efficient tool for assessing inter-personal relationships, and provided that some caution is exercised, compatibility studies provide a rapid and deep understanding of the couple. There is a Couple Report available at Astrotheme, it is among the Reports most sought after by our visitors.

Once the partners' charts are superimposed, it is possible to look for aspects formed between the two persons' planets, but also their angles, the mutual positions of planets in the partner's houses, and the mutual positions of the houses among them. For instance, if Mercury is involved, the relationship is rather intellectual and friendly. With and emphasis on Venus, it is sentimental and physical. With Mars, power struggles or just dynamism are prevailing. With the Moon, it is emotional and tender, and with Saturn, serious and enduring.

The characteristics of planetary aspects between two persons are the very basis of all charts comparison. As in natal charts, soft or hard aspects are used to identify the assets and the weaknesses of the relationship, with the following differences: contrarily to natal charts, in synastry, planets in opposition are not harmful. Owing to their complementarity, they are usually positive. It is much easier to experience the complementarity of certain traits of character found in the partner than in oneself. Therefore, oppositions are usually considered as beneficial, except when they involve planets of an incompatible and/or too violent nature (for instance, Saturn opposite Venus or Mars opposite the Moon).

Mutual positions in houses indicate the areas where the partner mainly intervenes, and the positive or negative energies he brings about. It is also useful to find out which signs, elements, and quadruplicities prevail in both charts, with a view to assessing the level of compatibility.

The methods used to achieve a serious compatibility analysis are complex because numerous factors must be taken into account. Since 2002, Astrotheme became specialized in couples' affinities calculation methods. Its comprehensive and sophisticated programmes are now a highly-regarded reference in this matter.

Here are a few examples of advice we offer in order to understand the results of the Free Love Test: advice. Don't forget to use this Free Love Test and our famous CeleStar: with this free CeleStar, you can get an assessment of your compatibility with personalities, or measure it among them!

It is interesting to also mention other techniques such as the composite chart, which is based on the calculation of the mid-points of the partners' same planets. A relationship chart is thus erected and analysed as if it were a separated entity. Other techniques such as the space-time chart are also explored and may provide encouraging results.

The juxtaposition of two charts sometimes allows us to spot compatibilities that were not noticeable in the superimposed charts. Likewise, similarities of structure between the partners' charts explain certain types of compatibility, whereas the detailed analysis does not.
