The Sun and Uranus in favorable aspect

Astrological aspects: general introduction

The analysis of a natal chart must be as comprehensive as possible. This is what we do as we make our personalized reports available in our e-shop. It must be borne in mind that many astrologers concentrate on the interpretation of planets in signs and in houses, and of angles, without paying enough attention to aspects. On the contrary, we believe that when aspects involve personal planets between themselves or slow-moving planets, they are of fundamental importance. In all cases, they are at least as significant as the Ascendant or the Sun. This is particularly relevant when the orb is tight (i.e. when the aspect is exact). This is the criterion we apply for this new series of articles which describe how well-known personalities experience certain aspects.

The Sun and Uranus in harmonious aspect

Let us remember that when a planet is in a tight aspect with the Sun, their link defines the whole personality of the chart's owner, his way of being and of shining.

The Sun depicts our individuality, our willpower, our core identity, our character, and what we are actually. Unlike the Ascendant, which describes how we are perceived or how we want to appear, the Sun represents our true self, without artifice, without cheating, somehow, what we know about ourselves.

This is the reason why, astrologically speaking, the Sun-Ascendant duet probably expresses a good half of our being, the essential part and the part everyone sees.

Because the Sun also symbolizes the desire to anticipate the future, astrologers say that he corresponds to our social persona. Depending on the sign where he is posited and on the planets in aspect with him, the Sun experiences with more or less ease our individuality which is sometimes domineering, extroverted, secretive, or serious, etc.

The House in which the Sun is found indicates the area of life which makes us feel comfortable, or at least, that we find irresistibly attractive.

It is necessary to qualify this method by precising that in a female chart, the Sun describes the qualities of her partner too, since the Sun is yang by nature. Besides, he also stands for the father figure and for authority during our childhood until we reach maturity at our turn.

As for Uranus, he is the planet of originality and inventiveness. At times, he feels the compelling urge to leave his usual surroundings and to free himself from existing rules.

He requires independence and freedom. He appreciates differences, the avant-garde, anything dealing with novelty and progress, or going beyond boundaries. He hates to behave as required by security concerns or by society.

Uranus' mode of expression is very brutal and startling, even when it is well-accepted as we shall see. In some cases, his influence brings about strokes of genius or even sheer genius. A strong Uranus often gives some kind of peculiarity, a physical one if he is linked with the Ascendant for instance, an intellectual one if he is related to Mercury, or a sentimental one if he is in aspect with Venus, etc.

When dealing with a Sun-Uranus combination, it is necessary to analyze it very carefully, because although Uranus is a collective planet, he becomes a major component of the personality. Both Uranus and the Sun are quite individualistic. The person having this aspect constantly needs to recall it, which means to step aside even if implies accepting the risk of being marginalized.

The more one takes independent initiatives, the more one's self-confidence develops, which enables to express one's willpower and to further one's projects. Technique, progress, and speed are active factors in the decision-making process of launching anything. Whether it is positive or negative, a Sun-Uranus connection offers more satisfaction if one feels that one is the pioneer in one's area.

In the following examples, we shall discuss the positive aspects between these planets, i.e. the unchallenged conjunction, the trine, and the sextile. With the conjunction, the consequence is strongest and never goes unnoticed. New ideas influencing people are taken into account. A path is cleared.

Trines and sextiles highlight independence and exchanges, especially in the areas represented by the Houses (the fields of action) involved.

Moreover, it must be noted that a sextile, which is a creative aspect, often implies some remarkable feat leading to an achievement, whereas a trine is more synonymous with good luck, which is also the type of facts favored by a harmonious Uranus.

In order to better explain this aspect, we are mentioning several well-known personalities (here Marie Curie (trine), Sean Penn (conjunction), Drew Barrymore (trine), and Sigmund Freud (conjunction)). This article deliberately isolates the aspects so as to better describe them. For this reason, it claims on no account to be a psychological analysis of the celebrity in question, for whom many other articles are available in the "Focus" section.

It is possible to find thousands of other horoscopes having the Sun and Uranus in favorable aspect (or any other aspects), with the online tool search. The planets, positions in sign and in house as well as the orb, are configurable.

Marie Curie

Marie Curie / Author : Christie's, Henri Manuel 1920 / CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0)

The lady who remains one of the greatest scientists of all time was born with the Sun in conjunction with the Midheaven (the career angle) in a rather tight trine with Uranus, posited on the Descendant.

It is fascinating to observe that the two domineering planets of her chart recount the essential part of Marie Curie's destiny. She was born in Poland where higher education was not available for girls. She pursued her passion for physics and chemistry in Paris, and in 1893 she passed her master degree in physics as top student. Three years later, she was awarded her Ph.D. by the Sorbonne, as top student again.

Her first steps were already stamped with the seal of independence and originality. Her meeting with Pierre Curie, who became her husband, was decisive. It was with this physicist of genius (he was one too) that she conducted her research on uranium salts.

Everything matches. The domain of the planet, the original partnership (Uranus in the 7th House), and the possibility to shine (the Sun on the Midheaven).

It must be underlined that the Moon in the 5th House and in Pisces completes this Water Grand Trine and heralds this great lady's popularity and generosity. However, she may have to pay the price for her discoveries with health issues caused by the noxiousness of radium.

Anyway, regarding the meaning of the aspect examined here, the life of this remarkable lady is an excellent illustration.

Sean Penn

Sometimes annoying with his Leo arrogance, in Sean Penn's case, the Sun is in tight conjunction with Uranus, a duet rather well supported by the whole chart.

Firstly, let us note that this conjunction gives him a less conventional touch than people with a prevailing Leo usually are. Although he comes from a well-established family in Hollywood, he enjoys breaking the rules by readily playing indomitable bad boy roles.

Besides, this is precisely what both the public and critics like.

Next, let us underline that this Sun-Uranus signature, in trine with the Ascendant in Sagittarius, is synonymous with lucky destiny. Opportunities occur, and Penn uses them effectively.

This aspect also enhances his Fire nature, which is generous, idealistic, and always directed toward brighter days.

Thus, he is acknowledged for his unusual stands in favor of the Rights of homosexuals for instance, or more recently, for having made a documentary in Ukraine in the middle of the conflict in Mars 2022.

The only drawback in his chart regarding the Sun-Uranus conjunction in Leo is the instability created in his private life, in the sense that his willpower and his choices have priority over his affective life, an area described by a square between the Mars-Venus conjunction in the mutable sign of Sagittarius and Jupiter. This indicates consuming, immediate, and demanding passion, which is not too compatible with durability.

Even though he readily falls in the trap of a love affair with a famous woman (Madonna, Robin Wright, Charlize Theron, and so many others), at last so far, Penn has always ended up going it alone.

Drew Barrymore

Let us give way to another star beloved by Hollywood, Drew Barrymore. Her path has been erratic, to say the least, before she regained some stability.

She was very young when she rose to fame with the movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial directed by Spielberg. She had a rebellious childhood, therefore, very influenced by Uranus.

In her chart, the Sun is imperial, in Pisces in the 10th House, in conjunction with the Midheaven. In a sign without borders, this configuration suggests that she is put into the public eye. The Sun is linked by a tight trine to Uranus in Scorpio, an aspect indicating that she is driven by curiosity, always willing to explore the depths of mystery and achieve surprising discoveries.

After a rough childhood, it is doubtless that it was thanks to Uranus that Barrymore had been able to bounce back in a quite unexpected manner in a field corresponding to the 5th House. Since she did not have cold feet, she posed nude for Playboy, just to relaunch her career in the eighties. It is always a bet in the United States, but in her case, taking this risk paid off. The film Charlie's Angels, an adaptation of a successful vintage series, sent her back to the forefront in the early 2000s.

Afterwards, the star found her path, particularly while advocating a better statute for actresses. Besides, she successfully produced demanding movies, thus confirming that people under the influence of the Sun and Uranus have more than one trick up their sleeves.

Sigmund Freud

Sigmund Freud / Author : Max Halberstadt 1921 / CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0)

The man who is considered nowadays to be the father of psychoanalysis was born with the Sun in Taurus, the sign in which a stellium is posited. Among the planets of the stellium, the astrologer notices above all the prominent roles of the Sun and Uranus.

In the 7th House, which represents partnerships and which complements the ego, the Sun and Uranus are part of the dominants. They even become one as they enhance the original sides of Taurus. Moreover, we know that Freud has shown a relentless will to explore the human soul, and that he did so for a long time.

Similarly, it is not surprising that with the Sun and Uranus in Taurus he was so interested in different and various instincts.

Right from the beginning, the Sun incited him to test as much as possible his discoveries on his patients instead of being satisfied with abstract laboratory research.

The other Taurus feature which marks Freud is his attraction to a settled life from which he expected gratitude and success, even though Uranus sometimes prompted him to rebel.

He may have upset people's practices, but he has served as a pioneer in the field of treatments of mental illnesses, and he relied on non-conventional approaches such as Charcot's hypnosis. After a while, he set it aside quite suddenly, again a very Uranus-like change of course.
