An Archetype of Aries with the Sun-moon Duet in the Sign
Great actor, giant of the American cinema, there are countless superlatives to describe Marlon Brando. From the astrological viewpoint, we are dealing with a very clear-cut typology. The Sun is in Aries, and the Ascendant in Sagittarius. His personality is twice influenced by Fire, the most highlighted element in the natal chart.
The cardinal mode and the predominant planets Jupiter and Uranus provide the first psychological clues, that are analyzed below. They all point in the same direction, that of a character full of energy, rebellion, and excess in all areas.
First, let us discuss the most important aspect of the chart, a very tight Moon-Sun conjunction in Aries. This position strengthens the sign's qualities and flaws which become pre-eminent in both the public and the private spheres.
In Brando's case, it is necessary to interpret this double conjunction as the kingpin of a Fire Grand Trine, because it is linked to Neptune in Leo and to Jupiter in Sagittarius.
When he was still very young, he easily understood that he had to distance himself from his father and his mother, as both of them were alcoholic. He was mainly raised by his two older sisters, and went to New York to join them, so as to make a break without regret with his unstable background.
It is most likely that the Moon represents the influence of these three women, for better or for worse.
An emblematic example of the sign of Aries, Brando has been the embodiment of obvious virility in the cinema, as proven by his filmography. At the beginning of his career, it only took him a few roles on stage to show what he was capable of.
When Elia Kazan chose him to portray Stanley, the slightly uncouth car mechanic of A Streetcar Named Desire, the Brando myth was already in place. In this film, adapted from one of the cult plays by Tennessee Williams, his talent burst, and he assertively played opposite the gorgeous Vivien Leigh. In a white singlet that he wore like no one else, he emitted an unsettling sex-appeal.
Afterward, in The Wild One, Brando rubbed it in with a role worthy of an Aries comedian, very muscular and strong.
Fire Power Always Available
It is true that the Fire Grand Trine is a splendid asset enabling Brando to have the career we all know about. Neptune provides a quite undefinable but intense influence which seduces the crowds, while Jupiter supports the actor's rise to power in Hollywood.
Indeed, Jupiter is in domicile and rules the Ascendant in Sagittarius. He is in the 1st House, but not in an angle, and he paints a man blessed with good luck, who amassed a huge fortune and who, on the physical health level, experienced obesity issues during the last part of his life.
With Brando, nothing was skimpy; everything was big and excessive. Besides, it is probably the Grand Trine, and more particularly Jupiter, who allowed him to make his comeback in 1972 in The Godfather by Francis Ford Coppola, after being out of the limelight for quite some time. The role made him famous for ever, and earned him a second Oscar, after having received his first award for On the Waterfront by Elia Kazan in 1954.
A T-square Producing Strength and Aggressivity
Getting back to the Moon-Sun conjunction, it is necessary to mention another major composed aspect, namely the T-square that this duet forms with Pluto in Cancer and Mars in Capricorn.
The composed aspect is very harsh and uncompromising. It implies learning to control an overly developed personal will. It is all the more so that the three signs (conjunction in Aries, Cancer and Capricorn) are cardinal. This configuration contributes to bring about an authoritarian, even abrupt, and action-oriented character.
Brando made no nuances. He is ready to run over everything in his path in order to impose his viewpoint, sometimes in an aggressive, not to say violent way. In his head, he did not dwell in silence on his torments; he took action to exteriorize them.
Uranus Depicts a Rebel Through and Through
Regarding radicality, one must not overlook Uranus, in an angle on the Imum Coeli. The planet undoubtedly refers to Brando's unconventional family and to his roots described above, but also to his own values.
According to those who met him, Brando was an actor with an unpredictable and uncontrollable comportment. Besides, his acting often differed from the scenario prepared by the film director.
It was to the extent that some believe that Uranus added an extra layer to Aries' individualistic sides. The planet prompted Brando almost automatically to behave in an anti-conformist way.
He publicly stood up for the rights of Amerindian and Afro-American populations, at a time when such stand was still very unusual. He himself married a Polynesian woman and had two children with her. He spent a significant part of his life in Bora-Bora.
A Chaotic Private Life Influenced by the T-square
Our short portrait of this legendary actor would not be exhaustive if his private life was not underlined. Despite Venus in Taurus, who contributes to endow him with intense sensuality, it seems that he has been neither stable nor really happy. Actually, Venus plays her role in the chart in an almost isolated manner, because she forms a semi-sextile with the Moon. Nevertheless, it is most likely that Venus led Brando to emotional bulimia, without big nuances.
Brando was known for his tempestuous personal life and the large number of his partners and children. He was the father of at least 11 children, including the three children he adopted.
His acknowledged bisexuality was more related to the Sun-Moon conjunction. According to the tradition, this aspect causes confusion or a lack of differentiation between feminine and masculine principles. In a biography by Darwin Porter, Brando had affairs with Bette Davis, Édith Piaf, Marlene Dietrich, James Dean, Montgomery Clift, James Baldwin, Richard Pryor, Marvin Gaye, and even Cary Grant, among many others.
Lastly, dramas did not spare Brando, since his son Christian was sentenced for murder, and his daughter Cheyenne was convicted of complicity. She committed suicide and hanged herself in jail when she was 25. In those days, the case drew the expected media coverage.
Here again, we see an unfortunate consequence of the T-Square we discussed above. Brando died in 2004. A good Sagittarius, he decided that his ashes would be scattered in Tahiti and Death Valley.
