A reserved Virgo, but a Leo Ascendant and a prominent Fire
Jean-Michel Jarre, born with the Sun in Virgo, shy and anxious? The information may astonish, especially if we observe that his Sun (on the 1st degree of the sign) is, in addition, conjunct Saturn – this planet being still in Leo.
The Sun sign probably inclines Jarre to perfectionism, and gives him the rational intelligence which led him to develop an exemplary career in terms of duration and success.
However, Jarre has weapons which do everything to overshadow the Saturnian conjunction and its quite melancholic reputation. Indeed, the energy and enthusiasm brought about by the Fire element triumph in the chart at a level of 54%, starting with a Leo Ascendant which does not go unnoticed.

The influence of Saturn and the absence of the father
From the outset, Jarre was born in the right place, in a family of musicians. He is the son of the famous composer of film music, Maurice Jarre. He has a great admiration for his mother, France Pejot, a high-end Resistance fighter.
Nevertheless, after his parents split, when he was still a child, the ties with his father unraveled. It was not thanks to the father that he developed his own taste for music and that he made a name for himself.
In his interviews, he mentioned "the void, the absence" of his father, expressions fitting perfectly well the effect of the Sun-Saturn conjunction discussed above. But he managed to turn this deficiency to his advantage, since no other aspect exacerbates the burden of this stern duet.
Although the first years of his life may have been quite gloomy, they allowed him to gain the classical music technique and the command dear to his Sun sign, as well as a facility for literature. Besides, he excelled very rapidly in these fields, winning prizes, and being noticed by professionals of the music industry. It did not take long for the Leo Ascendant to roar.
Fire and slow-moving planets propel him into success
Jarre was a precursor who, at barely 20, i.e. in 1968, had the intuition that experimental music was his means of expression. His passion for electroacoustics emerged around that time, long before it moved the crowds. Astrologically speaking, this is probably the combined influence of Virgo and of Uranus, apex planet of the Fire Grand Trine.

The dynamic role of an apparently discreet Mars
Mars, finally, albeit posited on the Imum Coeli and in Libra, gives Jarre the energy to increase the number of feats. The planet is the most angular of all and forms several aspects, in particular with the Moon, with Venus, with Jupiter, with Saturn, and with Uranus.
This is a double-edged configuration. It generates energy with Jupiter, perseverance with Saturn, but sometimes it brings about impulsiveness when there is an opposition to the Moon and a loose square with Venus. Mars in the 4th House (the family) may also correspond to the estrangement from the father and to some personal twinges caused by his incredible fame (the Moon at the top of the chart).
Mars being also in trine with Uranus, Jarre is a man of progress, a real pioneer who is not afraid to jostle traditions, sometimes with some roughness, but cleverly and with the positive results we know.
The Moon and Venus give him contradictory emotions
In the affective area too, everything started for him ideally, or almost, since we remember above all his 20-year relationship with the British actress Charlotte Rampling (the Moon in the 9th House, a partner having links with foreign matters, directly or indirectly). They set up a family; she was his muse, staying slightly in the background, until their divorce in 1976.
It was mainly after his affair with Isabelle Adjani, in 2002, that his planetary tendencies were illustrated in the affective area. In 2002, they were shown as "the lovers of the year" on Paris-Match's front page, before the blue-eyed star revealed their break-up in an equally resounding manner, less than two years later. Jarre allegedly cheated on her with another actress, Anne Parillaud. With the latter, a quite identical scenario recurred. She became his wife and got divorced five years later.
It is interesting to look at the Moon in Aries, who often arouses emotional roller coasters, a certain impetuosity, and a propensity to grow weary rapidly. In Libra, he thinks he can contain his instincts of raw power. Actually, he is only putting off the inevitable, because the three most instinctive planets of the zodiac are forming a T-Square (Moon square Venus and opposite Mars) and in unsuitable signs.
Let us admit that the challenge to harmonize these trends is not in the immediate future; Jarre can rely on his splendid Jupiter in the 5th House (creativity but also romance), in exact trine with the Moon in Aries. Transiting Mars to be watched in 2020
By the end of 2019, Jarre experienced an excellent period, with increased productivity and the publishing of his memoirs, acclaimed by reviewers. It is most likely that this is set off by the return of Jupiter to his natal position. As we have seen, the planet being very well-disposed in the natal chart, this transit expands good luck.
Regarding matters of the heart, henceforth, Jarre parades around with a new renowned actress, the Chinese Gong Li. She seems to be the synthesis of his history, and she represents the ultimate relation with the middle Empire. Once more, she matches Jarre's Moon in the 9th (a partner having foreign ties). Let us hope that, for Jarre, this love is the right one this time.
In several instances in 2020, it would be in his interest to exercise caution, since the mundane planets in Capricorn – the Saturn-Pluto duet, and Jupiter intermittently – will conflict with natal Mars. During this period, Jarre ought to show prudence and to refrain from being over-optimistic.

The Part of Fortune is an ancient concept, used by Ptolemy and other astrologers before him. Firstly, it has nothing to do with fortune! In modern astrology, it is actually used to enhance a planet or angle when in close conjunction with it: it thus amplifies the meaning associated to the point affected by its presence. It is calculated in the following way:
Part of Fortune = AS + Moon - Sun (it is the Moons position when the Sun rises)
The classical Part of Fortune, of which the calculus method is unchanged whether in a diurnal or nocturnal chart, is usually distinguished from the diurnal/nocturnal Part of Fortune which is calculated by the formula AS + Sun - Moon for a nocturnal chart, and AS + Moon - Sun in a diurnal chart.
