An Astrological Chart Full of Energy
It needed an extraordinary astrological chart to match an exceptional actor. In the case of Jack Nicholson, no one is disappointed. Indeed, he has a large number of configurations which clearly make a difference.
In addition, the aspects at play are often astoundingly tight in the chart, which, therefore, make them very powerful.
Let us examine the structure the chart of this person born with the Sun in Taurus and the Ascendant in Leo, ebullient and having a unique presence.
The Charm of Venus and the Charisma of the Ascendant in Leo
the Sun posited in the 10th House and in conjunction with Venus, the planet closest to an angle, heralds a wish to shine and to seduce which irresistibly prompts Nicholson to find his true status. That status will never be too elevated for this native of Neptune City, a small obscure town of New Jersey, which certainly did not suit him.
Pluto, still in the 12th House, but near the angle of the Ascendant in Leo, as well as Jupiter, from the other side, near the angle of the Descendant, form a T-square with the Sun-Venus duet. This highly energetic pattern brings about incredibly numerous excesses, not to mention the Sun in square with the Ascendant that he rules.
The immoderate optimism of Jupiter, the natural thirst for domination of Pluto, the adamant will of the Sun, the devastating charm of Venus, and the charisma of the Ascendant, "plutonized", all these features result in an almost electrical personality. Think in particular of One flew over the cuckoo's nest by Miloš Forman, and The Shining by Stanley Kubrick, in which Nicholson played an unbelievably strong character, in the first case sensitive and, in the second case, domineering, disturbing, and falling into madness.
This singular and original personality is confirmed by the of Sun-Uranus loose conjunction. Nicholson fears nothing, except to behave like everyone else.
His mother was a showgirl, and his father abandoned him. He was brought up by close relatives. What is to be remembered from his chaotic youth is that he was elected the clown class at school. This is a hint of a trait of character that he cultivated throughout his career. He was never afraid to be ridiculous or excessive, without forsaking his seductive facet, typical of the Venus-Pluto square.
Four Planets in the 10th House for an Outstanding Career
Even though he very rapidly decided to head for the cinema, Nicholson had to wait until he was over thirty to make a breakthrough. He eked out a living with small appearances, and wrote films until he got a leading part in Easy Rider by and with Dennis Hopper. The latter launched Nicholson for the rest of his life, since he earned an Oscar nomination.
With no less than four planets, of which three are personal planets, in the 10th House, career and center stage were practically scheduled, and anyway, could not wait any longer.
Nicholson won many awards during several decades, because his talent was obvious in the eyes of most of directors and undoubtedly of the public.
The Rich Diversity of a Chart Having Many Patterns
Despite harsh aspects, the chart is remarkably balanced and includes harmonious patterns, among which an Earth Grand Trine linking Mercury in Taurus in the 10th (social life), the Moon in Virgo in the 3rd (communication), and Jupiter in Capricorn in the 6th (daily effort).
This configuration facilitates the capacity to realize sustainable projects.
Another Grand Trine complements the arsenal of the assets of the sky map, linking Pluto, whose importance was already underlined, Mars in Sagittarius in the 5th (linked to the Pluto-Ascendant duet, by capillarity), and Saturn in the sign of Pisces in the 9th, assuring obstinacy, dynamism, and perseverance.
However, this pattern is half-Fire and half-Water, which produces a strange but attractive blend, that of energy and sensitivity.
There is also a harmonious rectangle formed by the Moon, Pluto, Saturn, and Jupiter, a stability factor.
Both Grand Trine patterns constitute kites, and it must be remembered that the Moon and Pluto are two key features of these configurations, highlighting Nicholson's instinctive and magnetic sides, not to mention his popularity, despite the exact Moon-Saturn opposition, greatly offset by the support of Jupiter, of Mars, of Pluto, and of Mercury.
Notwithstanding moments of doubt, Nicholson always got back into his sphere of optimism and his desire to go further towards new adventures.
The chart is really outstanding, because it nearly forms what is referred to as the star of David (sometimes called Salomon's Seal too), extremely rare, and which usually promises an exceptional destiny. Here, a small gap between the position of Mercury in Taurus or of Saturn in Pisces prevents the pattern from being perfect. Nevertheless, the chart remains powerful and endows the comedian with the qualities that we find in him, flamboyance, audacity, charm, charisma, although probably slightly too much.
Excess in All Areas, Especially in the Sentimental Area
In Nicholson's case, the flip side of the coin is the total lack of the Air element, which may point to difficulties to adapt himself or to be flexible with the members of his entourage, or in relation with events.
The T-Square we delineated earlier brings about a propensity for exaggeration which matches the various facets of Nicholson's character, as we can see in some of his roles, including those we mentioned above, or in As Good As It Gets by James L. Brooks, Batman by Tim Burton, or Wolf by Mike Nichols. They all offered the actor the opportunity to show characters fighting ambitiously, falling into insanity or crime after a reversal of fortune.
Regarding his private life, it is interesting to note that the actor had the same prolific tendencies. He had six children with five different women (but only one marriage, to Sandra Knight), without considering his countless love affairs with celebrities, including Michelle Phillips, Anjelica Huston, Jill St. John, Rebecca Broussard, Lara Flynn Boyle, Kate Moss, and even Paz de la Huerta, 47 years his junior, when he was 69.
Indeed, it is well known that he was unable to settle down; he was on the list of "Best ten living legends of sex" of the magazine Maxim, which corresponds very well to natal Venus in Aries, who gets bored rapidly, challenged by the excesses of Jupiter and Pluto at the very top of the chart, in the 10th House. This means feelings gushing out, quickly followed by lassitude, the desire to turn to something else, endlessly and conspicuously, most of the time with stars.
Today, end of 2021, recently retired and far from his film sets, Nicholson has not clearly explained the reasons of his absence, cultivating Pluto's enigmatic aura, or perhaps more simply, the wisdom and the serenity he eventually achieved at 84.
