Libra Strengthened by the Ascendant in Aries
Who knew Brie Larson before she won a Best Actress Oscar in 2016 thanks to her performance in Room? Although her name sounded familiar to us, the general public was not sure of who she was exactly. On the other hand, the world of cinema, especially the indies, had already spotted this experienced though very young comedian.
The first explanation is probably simple. Larson was precocious, and her contrasting personality is suitable for various roles. In the natal chart, her Ascendant in Aries opposes her Sun sign in Libra.
A Sun-mars Duet for an Energetic Temperament
On the Descendant, there is a pair of planets, namely the Sun, but also Mars, ruler of the chart. Larson is not an indecisive Libra. One might as well say that her gentleness is concealed beneath a quite thick even sometimes rough bark. Like anyone born with the Sun in Libra, Larson is concerned with the impression she gives, but she manages to overcome her doubts by handling things eagerly.
Occasionally, she can count on strong and active partners, since it may happen that the energy of a planet in the 7th House is somehow delegated to other people. In this case, the alter ego has Mars' traits, i.e. boldness, direct manners, and sometimes irritability. This configuration may herald marital disputes, an area which will probably bring about problems of positioning, since Libra attaches importance to love and marriage.
It is also possible that these tendencies have prompted Larson to accept in Room the role which earned her so many awards, viz. that of a woman raped and held in captivity during several years. A convincing character because Larson's performance seemed to come from the soul.
A Cardinal Grand Cross
The astrologer observes that the quite "stormy" natal chart includes a Grand Cross linking cardinal signs. In addition to the Ascendant in Aries and the Descendant in Libra, the Midheaven is in Capricorn, and the Imum Coeli is in Cancer. Several planets are posited on those angles and mingle with the dominants, as explained further down.
We shall begin with Saturn, in domicile in Capricorn and in the 10th House. One can hardly dream of having a better dignity, i.e. more power. Larson became mature quite early, since she was only nine when she made her film debut, and she grew up quickly. She understood the dangers of Hollywood and always remained diffident. She thought that her work was the means to prove her worth.
With such a position, self-control certainly affects every aspect of her life: personal and emotional expression, and home. Simultaneously, Jupiter in the 4th House, traditionally considered a nice situation, fits the fact that for some time she was home-schooled. Despite her probably warm family environment, the relationship with her father became difficult, since she has stopped talking to him for many years. In brief, it seems that the divorce of her parents is reflected in the aspects of Saturn (an absent father) to Jupiter on the MC-IC axis.
The characteristic of the Grand Cross is that it urges to constantly solve conflicts, which brings about an eventful and rich life, always in action, at the risk of undergoing its drawbacks. Moreover, when the Grand Cross is under control, it enables the chart owner to develop more rapidly than other people.
A Peculiar Venus in Scorpio in the 8th House
That's not all. In Larson's chart, another sign, Scorpio, is highlighted, which gives a darker psyche than that of a typical Libra. In an interview reproduced in the magazine Les Inrocks, she confided: "I am quite a morbid person. I am very optimistic, but I also have the impression that I'm going to die at any moment. Death is very present in my life. In fact, it's the same for everything. A film is released then disappears. Everything disappears."
The gorgeous actress has a very lively Venus, ruler of her Sun sign and conjunct Pluto, also posited in his sign. Needless to say, Larson's sensations, tastes, and values have a touch of blackness. She cannot help it, for this is how she feels that she is living more intensely. She resembles, or she echoes, the influence of the Grand Cross of her natal chart.
Capricorn's and Saturn's Coldness
Much could still be added about this very interesting and contrasting chart in which Mars and Saturn are highlighted against a backdrop of the domineering signs of Capricorn, Libra, and Scorpio.
Larson is currently enjoying the transit of Jupiter on natal Venus, which bodes well for her fulfilment. This helps her offset the very powerful but probably challenging influences of Saturn transiting her MC. Saturn will return to his natal place soon.
Larson is not finished yet with this slow-moving planet which is reinforcing its potency in Capricorn, the strongest sign of the natal chart. This emphasis may explain that Larson's contemporaries identify with her, including with a certain minimalist coldness which appears very chic in this day and age.
