Ambition and Modesty on a Capricorn and Scorpio Background
Among the very renowned directors, David Lynch occupies a special place. Indeed, he won the most prestigious awards – Oscars, Golden Globes and a Palme d'Or, among other accolades – and he achieved public recognition.
However, and oddly enough, he remains more or less on the fringe of Hollywood's system. He has practically turned his back on it several years ago and devotes himself to his various passions.
His astrological natal chart depicts the portrait of a person having the Sun in Capricorn, i.e. at the same time reserved, tormented, and not too sociable. Since his Ascendant is in Scorpio, Lynch is marked by two apparently rather cold and secretive signs. This is the basis of his personality.
Capricorn endows him with modesty and the ambition to relentlessly focus on work. In this regard, Scorpio, a very strong sign, agrees with this tendency and adds a touch of sensitivity – that of a tortured soul – that Capricorn does not always have, because the latter prefers tangible results to feelings.
Dynamic T-square Pattern
This peculiar man, born in Montana in a family of scientists and Presbyterians, seems to have lived and evolved in a world which totally echoes his first disposition.
The natal chart is rather tough and radical, overwhelmed by a T-Square pattern. This naturally tense aspect is even more explosive when it involves Mars and Saturn. These are in conjunction in Cancer, in conflict with Jupiter in Libra and opposite the Venus-Sun duet in late Capricorn. Inner struggle is probably intense, because expansive Jupiter is uncomfortable in the 12th House, the area of intimacy and of seclusion, sometimes of confinement.
As for Mars and Saturn, two planets of ill repute, they are busy hurting Cancer's emotions. The Sun and Venus retreat into an impassibility which may sometimes come across as disconnected from feelings.
An Inspired Moon in Virgo on the Midheaven
Fortunately for Lynch, the Moon is one of the few planets offering a different path. She is in Virgo, conjunct the Midheaven, and therefore, one of the dominants of the chart (the first dominance in this case). She influences the way he works, both meticulous and controlled but inspired. In his memoirs, Room to Dream, Lynch confirms that this topic is of utmost importance to him.
Moreover, for most of the ten feature films he made, he got the topic from dream-like inspiration, which is typically Moon-like. This is obvious in Elephant Man or Blue Velvet, a kind of reinterpretation for adults of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
By analogy, this creation became his trademark. For instance, Wild at Heart is a variation of the theme of the Wizard of Oz, in which two rudderless lovers embark on a baroque and indescribable road movie. Lynch received the Palme d'Or for this movie which remains astonishingly optimistic despite the very violent scenes which made a lot of ink flow when it was released in 1990.
Capricorn's Longevity
In those days, Lynch was still enjoying the success of Twin Peaks, the cult TV series released in 1990. As a skilled strategist, he revisited the rules of the genre – crime thriller – in order to astound the audience.
It must be noted that the impact of this series was so considerable that the director concocted with Mark Frost a very much expected continuation, Twin Peaks 3, more than 25 years later. With this, Lynch accomplished the feat of bringing back to life the atmosphere, the settings and the suspense of the original version.
This is an illustration of one of Capricorn's qualities, i.e. improvement over time, time being a friend in the symbolism of this sign. Since Lynch was a child, he constantly strove to add new strings to his bows, exploring music and painting, even though it was the cinema that brought him fame.
To sum up, this talented film-maker has probably put to advantage his complex planetary potential by dedicating himself to the arts.

Forthcoming Major Transits and Triple Conjunction
As 2019 is starting, Lynch is feeling the influences of transiting Saturn on natal Mercury, which prompts him to enrich and deepen his ideas, to focus on what is essential, and to get rid of what is superfluous.
The years 2020 and 2021 will be crucial, owing to the transit of three slow-moving planets. Saturn, as well as Pluto and Jupiter will activate the natal Sun-Venus duet, and therefore, his natal T-Square. If more than ever, Lynch cultivates mystery, he may amaze his audience and achieve a brilliant comeback in the world of the 7th art.
