Although he is not any more a young handsome comedian, Johnny Depp has already become a myth. However, the public may have had a wrong idea of the movie star, who cultivates the art of paradox. Sun in Gemini, Ascendant in Leo, his main calling card is that of a talented actor, charismatic, self-confident, endowed with the gift of the gab, who uses Gemini's facial expressions and sense of repartee, as well as Leo's poise.
He is Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, or the sexiest man of the world, as the magazine People called him twice.
His private life is as tempestuous as that of his film characters. He had a symbiotic affair with Winona Ryder, which caused him to have the name of his lover tattooed on his arm – Winona for ever – in his early youth, before a split which led to his much more sensational Kate Moss period in the ‘90s. Both literally and figuratively, the couple tear one another to pieces, patch up, and badly damage hotel rooms. Then, his long relationship with Vanessa Paradis appeased him during 14 years. Now, separated from the French singer, he seems to have set off again for passion with fiery-tempered Amber Heard, whom he is said to marry in the spring of 2014.
If we started this portrait with these lines on his romantic life, it is because the most striking aspect of the chart of this "minimum Gemini", with only the Sun in this sign, is a powerful Mercury-Venus conjunction in the 10th House. In the House of career, culminating in the chart and forming a T-Square with Saturn in the 7th House and Uranus in the 1st House, this Mercury-Venus conjunction provides us with (almost) all the keys of Depp's rich personality traits, full of contradictions. Mercury and Venus on the MC give him his undeniable power of seduction which worked on the public right from the beginning, and which he took full advantage of throughout his career. In Taurus, the conjunction suggests that Depp is sensual, epicurean, and craving for stability. Unfortunately, owing to two tense aspects with Saturn and Uranus, he seems to be constantly searching for more.
Indeed, stern Saturn, devourer of children in mythology, gives Depp the face of an old bachelor or of a hard-line loner in the field of marriage and partnerships. Saturn in the 7th House indicates difficulties in making friends, owing to a lack of confidence and assurance towards people. Of course, over time, the planet may improve and offer the owner of a chart displaying this configuration the possibility to establish a sound relationship, once maturity is reached. Thus, when Depp boasted about the stability some of his muses brought about, including Vanessa Paradis, it is possible that he started to get bored, withdrew into his shell, and finally turned into a cold fish. Thank you, Saturn, not too pleasant for those concerned!
We also mentioned Uranus, the other planet involved in the T-Square which challenges the Mercury-Venus conjunction. Owing to the position of Uranus on the Ascendant and conjunct Mars, Depp is an original person: he ends up weary of the Hollywood image projected by the Leo Ascendant. After having risen to fame very quickly, thanks to the cult series 21 Jump Street, he deliberately destroyed his perfect image by collecting roles in unsettling films. Actually, he himself used to be a rather rebellious adolescent, tempted by all sorts of weird experiences. This proves that the influence of Uranus in the 1st House is mighty. Every now and then, and despite the age factor, Uranus' energy reappears, and Johnny Depp definitely remains alone on board...
In short, we see how the very bright features of the chart – Ascendant in Leo, Mercury-Venus conjunction in Taurus – alternate with darker aspects: the T-Square and the Moon in Capricorn indicate with some insistently that Johnny Depp spends his time striving to construct in order to better destroy. This is how he behaves in his private life, but this is what he does with the public too, seeking to be acknowledged through blockbusters, then rejecting the tribute which the whole world pays to him...
But with dominants such as Venus, the Sun, and Neptune, Johnny Depp is mainly an artist, and nothing else. His dazzling talent probably saved him, and he still has a great deal of potential. Indeed, he can express himself in many various areas, through the cinema, as well as through music, which remains for him a field of deep exploration, like for many Neptunians.
Fortunately, Jupiter protects him. Forming an auspicious trine with the Ascendant, Jupiter heralds wealth, expansion, and strength for this incomparable actor. He can be out of the system, since he can easily afford it!

What about his transits? The last two years, Saturn transiting Scorpio, in conflict with the four-planet T-Square, may explain the split with Vanessa Paradis. Even though he rapidly hung out with Amber Head, the period was probably quite destabilising for him, particularly for his family roots, because Saturn was transiting in the 4th House. Now, this energy has started to subside, and Depp is more under the effect of transiting Pluto conjunct the natal Moon in Capricorn. This is an odd combination of both exacerbated and restrained sexuality, not very stable despite his desires, since it is influenced by Uranus. In other words, his Moon – the way he considers women – is undergoing, currently and for quite some time, the weight of the mundane Uranus-Pluto square. On the other hand, Jupiter crossing the Ascendant in the winter of 2014 will bring about a period of optimism, well-being, and cheerfulness.
In the summer of 2015, Depp is very likely to have success with his films, because Jupiter will transit his Uranus-Mars-Pluto stellium in Virgo. He would be well-advised to choose a role of action and a demanding script. Looking at his progressions, it is interesting to get back to the 2012 period to note that the Moon and the Black Moon, arriving in Scorpio, also indicated the end of a marital tie, since she activated also the famous T-Square which constitutes the keystone of the natal chart. In any case, Johnny Depp remains a Gemini who is anything but superficial!
