Analysis of Dominique Strauss-Kahn's astrological chart

Daily news regularly puts the spotlight on all sorts of famous people. Although we are not fond of juicy information, we inevitably have an idea about a given political figure, a movie star, a Royal Highness, or a skilled sportsman.

Those well-known faces draw our interest and seem familiar to us, because we watch their successes or their setbacks day by day.

Astrology may also be considered as an interesting filter to better define their personality, and to guess whether the events they experience are confirmed by their planets' activities. Astrology does not reveal everything, of course, but using the dominants and other peculiarities of the natal chart, we can see whether the astrological portrait matches the collective image or offers unsuspected additional nuances.

After Eva Green and Orlando Bloom, here is an article about Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the man with an incredible fate.

Delineating Dominique Strauss-Kahn's horoscope is a real treat because the astrological features perfectly match all the details we know about his extraordinary destiny.

He was born on 25 April 1949 in Neuilly, a very chic suburb of Paris. He has been for a long time the leader of the Socialist party, the man whom everybody, including himself, imagined to be the President of France some day. His natal chart is at his image: royal, colourful, lively, marked by good luck but also by a possible tragedy or by impulses destabilising his professional and private life.

With his bon viveur stoutness, which used to be part of his charm for many years, Strauss-Kahn is a typical Taurus. Hard-working and quiet, he makes his way and gets to the bottom of things. The fact that he was considered France's best economist and that he brilliantly ran the International Monetary Fund is in keeping with the material and positive symbols of the 2nd sign of the zodiac.

What is striking is that Taurus shelters three fast-moving planets, namely Venus, Mercury, and the Sun. As such, this combination has nothing uncommon, since these planets are always quite close to each other. Nevertheless, they reinforce Taurus' characteristics, i.e. intellect oriented towards concrete purposes, obstinacy, and feelings. Regarding this latter topic, let's stress that the Venus-Sun conjunction in Taurus must be analysed bearing in mind that Mars is still in the sign of Aries.

Without elaborating on the details of some of Strauss-Kahn's setbacks, we must admit that Mars in Aries applying to the Sun, himself conjunct Venus, does depict a man having bulimic and uncontrollable physical appetites.

Had he sought the advice of a good astrologer, he might have been warned that in any case, his behaviour would endanger his marriage and his destiny sooner or later.

Let's take a close look at the dominant of his chart. It is obviously Jupiter, the planet of expansion, extraversion, and career. Conjunct the Descendant, he traditionally indicates partnerships helping the person progress towards success, such as marriage for instance. It is widely believed that the couple Strauss-Kahn formed with the journalist Anne Sinclair could have been the winning formula for his highest ambitions.

Indeed, Jupiter on the Descendant, the House of partners, does fit the famous TV star, especially if details of her private life are examined. She was the wealthy heiress of a grandfather who was an art dealer. She would have provided freedom from want to Strauss-Kahn for the rest of his life, as he confessed to the press when they got married.

Unfortunately for him, Jupiter also sends a tough square to the Sun and to Venus in the 10th House. Anne Sinclair has been loyal till the end. She paid his bail and the flat where he lived in New-York in home confinement in 2011, a year which was so detrimental to her husband's career, before she finally gave up and filed for divorce. Here is the full list of the risks displayed in the natal chart: ascent, marriage with a celebrity, the main obstacle preventing the Sun in 10th from shining and the marriage from lasting. Why? Because of the negative sides of Jupiter, a benevolent planet which brings about exaggeration and disappointments when it is adversely aspected.

Let's recall that it is always necessary to carry out the synthesis of the horoscope. It is the addition of signs pointing to an excess of sensuality, of power, of casualness, and of jealousy from people which probably led to Strauss-Kahn's downfall. Let's just state, without value judgement, that his career underwent a brutal braking. It could have been a royal destiny, as the Leo Ascendant suggested. Besides, in 2012, no one banked on his competitors in the presidential race, both in the left wing and in the right wing, neither on François Hollande nor on Nicolas Sarkozy.

What happened next was profusely reported by the media. But let's agree that even in the most desperate circumstances, Strauss-Kahn remained lucky. This is what his powerful Jupiter promised him.

We could add another interesting clue if we review the major modes and elements of his natal chart. There is a complete lack of the Water element, a relatively rare peculiarity which indicates a lack of empathy and/or more often, a certain impossibility to express emotions or feelings. Indeed, all observers realised that throughout his ordeals, Strauss-Kahn's words remained cold, controlled, and detached, which is diametrically opposed to what the persons he hurt asserted. Moreover, a large majority of planets being in the South-eastern part, it is the "me first" principle in all its splendour, especially with a Leo Ascendant...

We notice that although Pluto is not among the most important planets, he is in the 1st House. Despite his zest for life, his larger than life nature, and his fame, Strauss-Kahn is a man with dark zones and potential disasters. They involve his love life again, since Pluto squares Venus (the orb with the Sun is too wide). This may hint at the Strauss-Kahn who indulges in quite unusual and even devilish sexual practices, given his intemperance and his taste for domination.

As for transits, it so happened that during the Nafissatou Diallo case, the Sofitel housekeeper who caused his fall, Strauss-Kahn was going through an odd and exceptional context. At first glance, Jupiter transiting the natal Sun in June 2011 indicated that he was in the spotlight, which could coincide with his return to centre stage and his election as candidate for the presidency. But on 14 May 2011, when he was arrested, the stars are more ambiguous, and Jupiter is transiting his natal Mars in Aries. As mentioned above, Strauss-Kahn's problem is his impossibility to curb the impulses of his Mars in Aries. Jupiter swept away all thoughts of carefulness, and the trap started to fall into place, for Venus too was active in this transit.

In predictive astrology, it is often the repetition of a birth potential (i.e. transiting planets reproducing an aspect existing in the natal chart) which triggers the phenomenon. At the time of the Sofitel affair, this is what occurred between Jupiter and Strauss-Kahn's Mars-Sun-Venus stellium.

And, last but not least, Uranus, the planet of the unexpected, sends his lightning. Very precisely on the natal Moon in Aries, which shows a "primary" intimate functioning, in the astrological sense of the term. In other words, taking action straight away and spontaneously. The Moon, partially representing the males' relations with women, is in the natal 9th House, that of foreign matters (or foreign women!). Uranus is transiting this difficult spot and brings in his wake the beginning of Pluto's square.

The noose starts to loosen only in the summer of 2011, when the transits of Jupiter and of fast-moving planets become more auspicious.

In 2015, as he attends the "Carlton case" trial in Lille and has the poise to resist all his accusers head-on, Strauss-Kahn experiences again a situation in which Jupiter is in the forefront and which has already proved quite detrimental. This time, Jupiter is transiting Pluto in the 1st House and heralds an outpouring of revelations about his unbridled sexuality. However, the heavens seem more lenient towards the former boss of the IMF, since he can rely on Saturn helping the natal Moon by offering her wisdom and balance.

Therefore, a satisfactory end may be expected, even though turbulences are not yet totally over.

Over the course of the forthcoming years, the importance of Earth signs – such as for instance Jupiter entering Virgo in the summer of 2015, and then Saturn moving into Capricorn in 2018 – might be omens of consolidation of whatever is remaining strong in his life (assets, career, and may be love). In spite of this, he will have to remember to heed the flashing red lights when Uranus will reach his Mars from the spring of 2017 on. The uttermost caution is recommended, once again regarding his physical attractions, his impulses, or his health. But since Saturn is supportive, like in early 2015, Dominique Strauss-Kahn will probably have the experience, the good sense, and the discernment required to avoid the same mishaps that he almost continuously underwent since 2011.
