Like many talented and famous personalities, Roman Polanski has an unusual chart, packed with paradoxes. The Sun is in Leo, the Ascendant is in Libra, and several planets are posited in the angles, which are strongly influenced by those planets. Indeed, Mars is in the 1st House (the Ego), Uranus is in the 7th House (other people). Moreover, there is a powerful Moon-Pluto conjunction in the Midheaven (career and social standing). It is probably this latter aspect that constitutes the cornerstone of the chart, as evidenced by an utterly eventful and novel-like life. The Moon is in Cancer, the sign she rules, and therefore, she should be comfortable with all matters related to childhood, emotions, and sensitivity.
Unfortunately, due to her elevated position in the chart, this Moon is tormented. Owing to her Pluto link, she imprints the memory of death in the core of Polanski's cells. He was exposed to death at a very early age, since several members of his family died in the Nazi camps. He himself narrowly escaped deportation, and was forced to wander throughout Poland. The Moon also forms a quite tight T-Square with two prominent planets, i.e. Mars and Uranus. This suggests that his life will always be prone to disruptions caused by his actions and other people's.
Polanski is obviously strong-willed and action-oriented, in line with the image we get as we watch him evolve in the cinema world. He is also fond of aesthetics, of course, with his strong Leo and Libra. These two signs have indisputably drawn him towards an artistic and creative profession.
His behaviour may also be explosive and uncontrollable, at least this is how he comes across. All his relationships are subject to sudden changes brought about by Uranus' opposition Mars and square Moon-Pluto. The first tragedy he avoided – let us recall that his mother was expecting when she died in the camps, which is typical of this tense aspect – occurred again later when his pregnant wife, Sharon Tate, was slaughtered by the Charles Manson sect, which was actually called "The Family". Let us confess that the analogies between real experiences and the characteristics of the astrological chart are most thought-provoking. On 9 August 1969, the day of the tragedy, the Black Moon was nearing the angular conjunction and may have played a trigger role.
Then, as Polanski pursued an international career, earning the acclaim of the audience as well as that of critics (Moon and Pluto again), the same dark themes obsess him: "Rosemary's Baby", "The Vampires' Ball", "Repulsion", all the titles of his films display a wide range of Plutonian hues.
However, as mentioned above, not everything is dark in his chart. In the 12th House, the Venus-Jupiter conjunction indicates an eager temperament seeking quiet and hidden happiness, and may offer redemption possibilities. This may explain his successful marriage with actress Emmanuelle Seigner, who shares a few features with him, since she has the Sun in Cancer. Both of them were careful to be quite discreet, even when Roman Polanski was once more arrested for his past deeds. This time, while he was travelling to Switzerland to attend a festival, the Zürich police arrested him. He faced a rape charge which dated back to 1979! A woman and his past: once again, the mark of disharmonious Cancer. Polanski was then 76 years old, and the victim herself had requested that the judicial proceedings be dropped. We all remember the incident when he was under house arrest in his chalet in Gstaad. On 27 September 2009, Saturn and Mercury transiting his Jupiter-Venus conjunction, and opposing natal Uranus, are very telling. Once again, it is the manifestation of the typical Uranian sudden turn of events jeopardising happiness and stability. Even though there will finally be no extradition, and Polanski will recover freedom, it remains a very relative freedom. As of today, American proceedings are ongoing, and Polanski is forced to live in three countries: Switzerland, France, and Poland, lest he should experience new unpleasant surprises.
In a nutshell, his life and his work in general illustrate the influence of the planets which rule his chart. Suffering, evil, ambiguity, satanism, and madness were widely included by the director in his films, which always leave an uneasy feeling. Nevertheless, he earned the esteem of his industry thanks to his creative qualities, which are specific to a thriving Mars on the Ascendant and also to Uranus. He will always be in control of his work, whatever the price to pay may be. His peers praise his technical knowledge, his perfectionism, and a certain degree of reserve. In this regard, these qualities stem from Virgo, a prominent sign in addition to Leo, Cancer, and Libra.
During the first months of 2014, like many people, Roman Polanski will undergo the Grand Square in cardinal signs. Although his natal planets will not be affected, the return of Uranus in Aries, near the Descendant's cusp for the whole year, as well as the retrogradation of Mars in Libra, also back in his natal sign, incite to utmost caution.

Might it be the illustration of his intention to wink at fate, since he is going to turn "The Vampires' Bal" into a musical? In any case, we will follow very closely how he will be doing throughout the year. It is very promising because Jupiter will transit this Moon-Pluto conjunction in June 2014, after having come close to the Midheaven in the fall of 2013. Normally, the planet should put Polanski in the limelight and offer positive repercussions. What remains to be seen is how the expansive nature of Jupiter will play out on this nothing less than tortured chart.
