On April 26, 2025, a vehicle-ramming attack struck the Lapu Lapu Day festival in Vancouver, British Columbia, an event celebrating Filipino heritage. Nine people, including a child, were killed and several others injured. The festival honors Lapulapu, a Filipino anti-colonial hero, and has been officially recognized since 2023.
