Thomas Campbell (27 July 1777 – 15 June 1844) was a Scottish poet, known for Pleasures of Hope (1799) and patriotic war songs such as Ye Mariners of England and The Battle of the Baltic. He helped found University College London, inspired by German education, and served as Rector of the University of Glasgow (1826–1829), defeating Sir Walter Scott. |
