Few creators are as prolific and detail oriented as Woody Allen. Therefore, it is not surprising that this very peculiar movie director was born with the Sun in Sagittarius and the Ascendant in Virgo.
Owing to the 9th zodiacal sign, Woody Allen has a grand-scale approach of things, and an acute curiosity. On the other hand, he belongs to the type of persons who prefer journeys of the mind to physical adventures. The principal characteristic of his natal chart is the tight Mercury-Jupiter conjunction, towards which everything finally converges. Indeed, Mercury is the first ruler of the Ascendant, and Jupiter is the ruler of the Sun. Both planets work in unison and form the main part of the personality. The snag is that Mercury is in exile in Sagittarius and requires a constant adaptation effort. The recurring personage, so similar to him, whom Woody Allen embodies in his films, seems to be repeatedly forced to fight the surrounding hostility, crushed by his own weakness. He is the first one to opt for derision, stigmatising the complexes which obsess him in a very Virgoan logic. He is reported to have declared that he made many mistakes, the first one being to be born. Despite his big neurotic disposition – for Sagittarius wants large neuroses – he has a knack for overcoming his limitations. He often amazed us by telling how a little sickly guy wearing thick glasses can metamorphose into a Don Juan by the grace of the cinema. And ends up hurting his most beautiful partners!
In real life, Woody Allen displays a couple of manias, another trait proper to Virgo. For instance, he refuses to see his films once they are released. As for Sagittarius' bourgeois tendencies, they are sifted through Mercury's eye. Most of Allen's stories take place in well-to-do backgrounds, the codes of which he makes fun of as fiercely as he needs them.
It seems that he never runs short of money, especially when it is to carry out some psychoanalytic therapy or to pursue social ambitions (Match Point).
Although Woody Allen often chooses to lighten up the outline of his stories with situations of comedy, a large part of his filmography reveals quite painful anguish. This is mainly caused by Saturn, who feels uncomfortable in the uncertain realm of Pisces, a factor which adds a final touch to the complexes of Virgo. Moreover, this planet forms an exact square with the famous two dominants, namely Mercury and Jupiter. It is undeniable that the influence of this austere planet may sometimes produce a sad clown. Saturn, it is Woody Allen stating that "Eternity is a long time, particularly towards the end". This does not prevent him, whenever Saturn allows full rein to Jupiter, from declaring: "I don't want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve it through not dying". In other words, this ambivalence regarding existential doubt and optimism constitutes the two almost equal parts of his personality.
Fortunately, with the Moon in Aquarius, his future-oriented Sagittarius ego benefits from his capacity to transcend his emotions. In addition, the Moon sends a beautiful trine to Venus. As the astrologer considers the position of these two planets posited in air signs, as well as their excellent respective relations, he sees in Woody Allen an artist who knows how to promote women through his work. Venus in Libra and in the 3rd House describes very well the ideal woman in the characters he creates: a young and lovely student, quite sociable and frivolous, at ease with the modern world – well, especially in New York. In short, Mariel Hemingway in "Manhattan", Diane Keaton in many other masterpieces... His heroine has sharp brains, behaves with eccentricity, and is not hampered by taboos when it comes to convincing him.
If we examine his capacity to deal with people in real life, we know that Saturn in the 7th House suggests either celibacy or late success. Despite long-lasting relationships, it is well known for instance that Woody Allen did not live in the marital home with Mia Farrow, and that he kept his old bachelor habits. As for his present spouse, Soon Yi Previn, she allowed him to overcome scandals, thanks to his Saturn-Uranus sextile.

What is likely to occur in 2014? Nominated for the Oscars, the director enjoys an almost universal professional recognition. He is showered with awards, and holds the record for nominations for best screenplay, which highlights the high quality of the writings of this Mercurian. His private life remains clouded by the accusations made by his former wife and by several of his adopted children. Transiting Neptune conjunct natal Saturn in the 7th House and square his two natal dominants strengthens the muddled, uncertain, and even unhealthy climate surrounding these relationships. He pays the price for the past (Saturn), but to which extent? Nevertheless, transiting Jupiter in Cancer protects him and may help him to successfully get away with it.
As of mid-August, Jupiter in Leo will support Allen's planets in Sagittarius and will enhance his self-confidence. A wonderful harvest may even fall on his lap in October 2014. Next astrological appointments to be watched: Jupiter transiting the Ascendant by the end of the summer of 2015, then in Virgo and in tense aspect to natal Jupiter-Mercury duo. An eternal reactivation of his initial issues, out of which we hope that he will make a film.
