Without being familiar with the life of French director Luc Besson, it is a safe bet to imagine that the sea and the sun were his sources of inspiration. The Sun in Pisces, with a Fire profile and an Ascendant in Leo, is marked by the universe of The Big Blue. With this film, Besson achieved instant fame, and he became a real societal phenomenon for a young audience avid for thrills. If the story seems quite "cliché" to some critics, it is obvious that it draws on personal experiences. Besides, Besson often mentions a dream childhood spent on a Greek island with his parents who were organisers at the Club Med. The dream was smashed into pieces when the parents divorced, and Besson finds himself in France, in the middle of the countryside. Definitely not his element!
Although Pisces shelters only his natal Sun, it is worth considering it twice before judging that Besson is not much influenced by this sign. Indeed, posited in the 9th House, that of high ideals and of everything remote, his Sun also rules the Leo Ascendant. Therefore, there is a deep innate desire for getaways and immensity. Moreover, even though the 12th and the 5th zodiacal signs have little in common, we can at least note that they endow Besson with strong aesthetic dispositions. The natal chart also includes a Grand Trine formed by the Sun, the Ascendant, and Jupiter, a highly powerful and harmonious configuration. The only reservation that we could put forward is that the Grand Trine links two elements which are a priori not very compatible, Water and Fire, and that it offers little casual easiness.
Getting back to the way in which such tendencies are applied to Besson's work, let's say that they result in an image inspired by the advertisements of the '80s, very polished up and unabashed. It is the "Besson style", which rapidly imposed itself and remains identifiable at first glance. Often called a megalomaniac, the film director claims the right to be both simple and to set himself no limitations. Since his first successes, Luc Besson proved that he has more than one string at his bow. Subway, Nikita, Léon, The Fifth element, or more recently, Lucy, the titles of his films are as short as the lines of people waiting to watch them are long.
After having generated 216 million dollars in proceeds in less than three weeks, his last production featuring Scarlett Johansson earned him the top place at the global box-office. Ironically, the scenario of the film is based on the fact that we use only roughly 10 % of our brain capacities... Well, what is the dominant of Besson's natal chart? Mercury, posited on the Midheaven and in Aries, forming many aspects with the other planets. Mercury, the intellectual planet par excellence, sextiles Mars, trines Uranus, and squares Saturn. Difficult not to remark that Luc Besson is endowed with a very acute instinctive intelligence, very quick and even dazzling. However, Besson's initiatives are slowed down by Saturn, whose contacts with the other planets (Libra) sometimes hinder the ardour of hot-headed Aries. But he manages...
What about women? They are so omnipresent, in his cinema as well as in his life, that it is necessary to carefully analyse the potential of his chart in this regard. Here again, the astrological image matches the idea we may have. Venus in Aries exposes him to fiery frenzies. Unfortunately, they sometimes cause bitter disappointments, owing to Neptune's opposition. He fell for several gorgeous actresses, giving them wonderful roles. Anne Parillaud in Nikita, Maïwenn Le Besco, who since then made a successful career by herself, whom he left for the Slav beauty of Milla Jovovich, who will be his Joan of Arc. Let's not forget other great comedians with whom he had a link of professional nature only, but whose talent he was able to sense: Scarlett Johansson of course, but also Natalie Portman, who was a child in Léon, and Isabelle Adjani.
The other facet of his relationship with women is represented by the Moon in Cancer. It may symbolise the great cinema family but also the woman-mother. Although he often created erotic, wild and aggressive heroines, in real life, he confesses gladly that he gives in to these life givers. Because of the Moon-Saturn opposition, here again, Besson stumbles over the hurdle, and may not be persevering enough. The Grand Trine mentioned earlier makes life easy for him as much as the T-Square formed by Moon-Saturn-Mercury in cardinal signs gives him a hard time.
He probably underwent a few surprises from the heavens during the past months, with transits tightly impacting on his planets in cardinal signs. However, Jupiter transiting his Ascendant in the summer of 2014 coincides with the deserved acknowledgment which his last film brought him, as well as good financial consequences.

What is to come next is just as promising. He is most likely to receive honours and additional incomes between the end of 2014 and the beginning of 2015, with very auspicious moments during the awards season of the film industry. Even though – with his anti-establishment Mercury in Aries – Luc Besson often says that he disapproves of such demonstrations! Further on, transiting Saturn entering Sagittarius may offer the advantage to turn Besson into a wiser or more mystic person, since Saturn will again support Mercury on the Midheaven in Aries, in the spring of 2016.
Looking at the progressions, we note that the Moon is in Cancer between 2013 and 2014, which is the confirmation that the period is important in terms of popularity. Despite a few harsh aspects, it is synonymous with renown.
