A sensual voice, low-pitched and deep at the same time: according to many rock music experts, Bono's voice is one of the sexiest in the world. Is it not the privilege of a person born with the Sun in Taurus and the Ascendant in Capricorn? Indeed, not only did the leader of the mythical U2 group receive the innate talent from his solar sign, but also he improved it like a tool he fine-tuned over time.
When he was only an adolescent, Paul Hewson, before he chose the nickname of Bono, showed artistic trends and above all the wish to go on stage and to convey messages. Like many stars-to-be, he managed to form a band with three companions in Dublin. The musicians had their first experiences, which did not have the quality required to stand the test of time since they still had shortcomings. However, owing to the strength of the Earth element, Bono has always been very realistic, pragmatic, and cut out for marathons rather than for sprints. He had to wait until he ran into the right producer, Paul McGuinness, before everything set off. Since then, the alliance with U2 has considerably contributed to the success of the group and has never been questioned.
Besides, one of Bono's assets is his fidelity, to his friends as well as to his convictions and his musical style. The lead singer has remained loyal to his formation for over thirty years without giving rise to rumours of clashes, jealousy, or other tensions. This road seems almost quiet for a rock star.
Bono is deeply influenced by Taurus, in which, in addition to the Sun, he has Mercury and Venus, who work in duo. These two planets are opposite Neptune and the Moon, a very interesting pattern of the chart. On the one hand, Mercury and Venus suggest a simple disposition, positive, and confident in the intellectual and affective areas. On the other hand, the involvement of Neptune and the Moon endows Bono with uncommon imagination and daydreaming faculties. On the downside, existential anxieties are certainly underlying with such a configuration. He described himself quite similarly and thanked his wife for accepting him the way he is. He said: "To understand your weakness is your only chance of ever being strong, and this is why I cling to people. I am a weak and imperfect man. I have a wild side. A different version of me would sleep on the beach or, even worse, would float on the sea. I am an experimental personage. Many people with whom I grew up encountered rough patches, but I have a very sharp survival instinct, and this is why I hold on to people." This is about the private facets of the singer. Now, we obviously need to examine his public image to grasp how his planetary traits play out, and to explain his professional path and his choices.
To begin with, the Ascendant in Capricorn is important and shares several characteristics with Taurus, thus reinforcing the solid and hard-working temperament. Then, we detect in Bono's chart a taste for making political decisions too. Capricorn is fond of this type of concern. This may occur more frequently when Saturn is omnipotent, as it is the case here, though still in the 12th House but conjunct the Ascendant axis, in domicile, trine the Sun and, to a lesser extent, Mercury. This aspect is the main driving force behind the group's militant lyrics and Bono's personal philanthropic, social and political commitments.
For instance, the famous tube, Sunday, bloody Sunday, released in 1972, which marked a whole generation and stayed emblematic, refers to the Anglo-Irish conflict. Likewise, in one of their most popular albums, The Joshua Tree, the lyrics of the opening track, Where the streets have no name, were inspired to Bono by his social observations. When in Belfast, he learned that it was possible to infer the religion and the income of the city dwellers from the street where they lived. Whence the title of the piece... Later on, he remembered this story during a trip he made to Ethiopia to help famine-stricken populations. Since then, his struggle for poor countries, mostly African, his frequent interventions at the World Economic Forum in Davos, and the tributes he paid to Desmond Tutu or to Nelson Mandela during his concerts, have been the various manifestations of a sensibility related to the Ascendant in the 10th House and to the presence of Saturn.
Despite the austerity we mentioned, we must not neglect the factors of good luck and success in Bono's chart. Mercury and Venus are the focal point of a great pattern, the boomerang, i.e. a grand trine involving Jupiter and Pluto, who both sextile the Neptune-Moon pair. To sum up, it is through artistic expression that Bono is able to overcome tragedies.
Whereas many prominent groups in the '80s or the '90s have now either disappeared or returned to anonymity, the U2 machine keeps on making the world dream.

Analysing the recent transits, we see that Bono is nevertheless going through a tricky period. In November 2014, he was the victim of a stupid bicycle accident, which may have repercussion on his guitar performance. It is true that transiting Pluto is getting near natal Saturn in the 12th House, the weight of which we already assessed. While this planet compels Bono to surmount ordeals, it enables him to complete a cycle, especially since, simultaneously, natal Saturn is stationing in the 10th House and will travel backwards on the Midheaven axis during the spring and the summer of 2015. Transiting Jupiter entering Virgo will probably restore some serenity as early as August and until the end of the year.
Furthermore, we notice that Bono's secondary progressions confirm the fact that he has been through a period which bears the stamp of Saturn but which tends to subside. The progressed Moon is reaching her natal position and is making the outstanding natal boomerang pattern shine brightly. This may herald fresh energy, more auspicious for the career. Perhaps some sort of revived inspiration, for an nth successful tour...
