We are dealing here with Steve McQueen, a man whose life seems to express accurately the dominants of the signs and the planets, including their contradictions.
Indeed, the actor, producer, and mythical race car driver had an explosive natal chart fitting an Aries, always very self-centered. He did not hesitate to acknowledge in his interviews that he lived for himself and that he was accountable to no one.
Right from the start, his youth was hectic, since his father, a professional soldier, abandoned him, and his mother took little care of him.
Left to his own devices, he rapidly got used to decide alone. It is not surprising that he became an uncontrollable teenager who could have turned out badly.
After several adverse experiences, fortunately, young McQueen had a wake-up call that could be considered of the Uranus type, and he carried out a radical change in his destiny. At the age of 17, he suddenly left Los Angeles and enlisted in the military.
In his sky map, the Sun is in the middle of a triple conjunction between Mercury (still in Pisces), near Venus in Aries, and more importantly, Uranus and the Midheaven. This configuration explains this unpredictable and lively nature.
However, one may think that in all circumstances, McQueen showed his exceptional determination, supported by a quite well-aspected Mercury who provided the ability to cope in any situation.
Drawing on his military pilot experience, he made the most of his athletic qualities in his future films. Actually, without qualms, he approached the world of entertainment even though it was completely unfamiliar to him. It did not take him long to get the attention of famous directors.
As he started in TV series, he also dared to give his opinion on many points during the shooting, because he wanted to put himself forward.
His sense of rivalry – typically Aries – always prompted him to outdo his partners, such as for example Yul Brynner and Paul Newman, who were as successful and charismatic as himself.
Incidentally, he went so far as to count the number of lines he had to deliver, and he had the scenario changed to his advantage! A habit he never let go, bearing in mind that he was known for being whimsical and difficult to direct.
Cancer Ascendant and Embodiment of the Antihero
The reason of this hypersensitive – therefore touchy – behavior is probably the strength of the Water element, highlighted in the chart by the Ascendant in Cancer, while Mars, ruler of the Sun, is in Pisces. Although McQueen seemed neither fragile nor introverted, he enjoyed that he successfully played antihero roles.
He was later nicknamed "the King of Cool", which was not accurate but matched the characters he incarnated during his career. This term mainly referred to his looks or his falsely detached and phlegmatic attitudes, totally in line with the films of the sixties.
Indeed, this did not tally with his deep personality, according to those who knew him and described him more as the archetype of the male with several flaws of primary nature.
The Moon in Aquarius in the 7th and the Taste for Free Love
The Moon in Aquarius adds a unique touch to McQueen's Aries personality. Posited in Aquarius and in the 7th House, she accounts for the fact that he was interested in independent, modern, and unusual women.
Yet, paradoxically, he spared no effort to control those who shared his life, for instance his first wife or Ali MacGraw.
It is possible that the influence of the Black Moon in conjunction with the natal Moon explains the attraction-repulsion which prompted him to impose demands out of sheer self-pride.
The conjunction is also responsible for McQueen's overflowing charisma and its influence on his career.
Also in the chapter about the way he dealt with seduction, it is necessary to mention the importance of Venus. She is electric because she is in conjunction with Uranus in the Midheaven and brings about love at first sight as well as quick break-ups.
Jupiter's Great Help
With Venus so strongly marked by Uranus, McQueen did not hesitate to act like a lady-killer. His feelings were sincere, but he was unable to settle down, and more often than not, he was unfaithful. It must be recalled that Uranus and Venus are involved in a harsh T-square linking them to Saturn in the 6th House (daily life and health), and to Pluto in the 12th (ordeals), which complicated his love affairs.
As charming as he was, McQueen was not an easy-going companion, because he was subject to all kinds of excesses.
For cinephiles, he still remains an actor whose animal-like presence was enough to make a good film. This is quite characteristic of the Sun in Aries, like Marlon Brando, another Aries celebrity.
Let us add that McQueen's fame never faded and enabled him to earn astronomical fees. Thanks to the luminaries in good aspect with Jupiter – in sextile with the Sun, and in trine with the Moon in an angle – McQueen did not need to run after his audience and remained in the Pantheon of the greatest artists.
The Weight of Saturn and a Vulnerable Health
Nonetheless, this auspicious Jupiter was not able to totally protect McQueen. In 1978, he developed a persistent cough, and after the shooting of the movies The Hunter, by the end of 1979, a biopsy revealed that he had an incurable pleural cancer.
His widow, Barbara Minty, said that he caught his illness while he was in the Marines cleaning boat hulls, and in this occasion, inhaling accidentally asbestos particles.
The disease worsened and, on 7 November, a final desperate surgery tried to remove a cancerous tumor on his liver. Several hours later, McQueen died in his sleep of a heart attack, at only 50.
Researchers noted that when the news about his incurable cancer was released, concerning his transits, mundane Saturn was in exact opposition with Mercury (the messenger) in the 3rd House, and that at the moment of death, Jupiter and Saturn were in exact opposition with the natal Sun (vitality).
In the solar arc directions chart, when McQueen died, the Pluto-Saturn-Venus T-Square was posited on natal Mars in the 8th House (progressed Pluto in front of it). In the secondary directions chart, the progressed Ascendant was also in front of natal Mars, and progressed Mars was in conjunction with natal Venus. These are highly disturbing clues to a tragic conclusion.
