Analysis of Rose McGowan's astrological chart

Astrology at the Service of Character Analysis

Daily news regularly puts the spotlight on all sorts of famous people. Although we are not fond of juicy information, we inevitably have an idea about a given political figure, a movie star, a Royal Highness, or a skilled sportsman.

Those well-known faces draw our interest and seem familiar to us, because we watch their successes or their setbacks day by day.

Astrology may also be considered as an interesting filter to better define their personality, and to guess whether the events they experience are confirmed by their planets' activities. Astrology does not reveal everything, of course, but using the dominants and other peculiarities of the natal chart, we can see whether the astrological portrait matches the collective image or offers unsuspected additional nuances.

After Robert Redford and Gary Oldman, here is an article about the cerebral Rose McGowan.

An Ethereal Mercury Lady

Rose McGowan

For the past few months, Rose McGowan has been much talked about because she was one of the first who denounced the schemes of the producer Harvey Weinstein. Since then, she has become the very spokesperson for humiliated women in Hollywood. This is not surprising, given her natal chart.

First of all, she is a Virgo, a shy and modest sign loathing dishonesty. She is also marked by Mercury since her Ascendant is in Gemini, a sign also ruled by Mercury. The Air element is very strong in her dominants and represents more than half of the influences of the four elements.

Venus and Rebellion

Nowadays, McGowan seems quite different from the image the audience has built of her through her first roles. In 1996, she made her debut as a comedian in horror films (Slasher Movies) such as Scream, one of her early successes. She also showed a preference for independent productions. This brings us to her Venus conjunct Uranus in Libra. This aspect is particularly interesting in McGowan's chart, for it matches well her real life as well as the rebellious temperament which governs her emotions.

In the company of Venus, Saturn, ruler of Aquarius manages to come to a compromise with attractiveness. At the same time, he counters the system. It was in 1997, at the Sundance festival which showcases the independant cinema, that McGowan met Harvey Weinstein. The young actress, still blazing with the success of Scream, caught the eye of the producer. In the wake of The New York Times' revelations last fall, McGowan finally revealed that she has been raped. A financial settlement, agreed in those days with the fallen producer, first forced her to remain silent.

Saturn and the Code of Silence

However, the natal chart once again illustrates the problematics experienced. Indeed, the astrologer notes that Saturn is in Cancer in the 1st House. Although the planet is not conjunct the Ascendant, we easily guess that there is a contradiction between Gemini's values ruling the first impression McGowan gives – lightness, a tendency to flirt from one person to another – and Saturn's silent rigour. In the sign of its exile, the planet is uncomfortable and disturbs the need for privacy. It is most likely that such a position has prompted McGowan to withdraw in her cavern when the scandal broke out publicly.

Uranus and Claiming One's Rights

However, Uranus, conjunct Venus and trine the Midheaven in Aquarius is stronger than Saturn. Owing to this configuration, McGowan can also decide to use unusual means affecting her career.

Natal Uranus describes a person who refuses to fall in the trap of seduction – Venus in Libra – in order to claim the rights of women and to get to grips with Hollywood's macho methods. Besides, McGowan never missed an opportunity to point a finger at the sexism she witnessed. For instance, her agent left her because she criticised a casting for a film by Adam Sandler requiring women to attend in skimpy outfits.

There is another parameter, a nice aspect linking Mercury, ruler of the chart, to Mars.

McGowan now comes across as an amazon determined to speak out. She chose to appear on the cover of her book with her back turned and almost shaved hair. The image of the bimbo in insignifiant fictions is gone forever.

She announced immediately afterwards that she intends to stay away from the sets for a while. It is true that, with over fifty films and series shot in 24 years of career, she may feel like moving on.

Uranus and Saturn at the Helm for the Future

It is particularly interesting to analyse her transits in such a context. Let's begin with starring Uranus who, in Aries for several months in Aries, has been activating the natal Moon in Sagittarius. This transit in trine seems to coincide with the period when McGowan woke up and proved to be a fierce champion of the women's cause.

This aspect will progressively fade away this spring and when Uranus enters Taurus. It will regain momentum next fall when the planet retrogrades in Aries.

She shall not yet analyse the period when Uranus will transit natal Mars at 7° of Taurus at the beginning of the spring of 2019.

In the meantine, Saturn will play an intrumental role when he will enter Capricorne in the 7th House of the natal chart, for he will oppose his natal position. In this House – relationships – Saturn indicates that McGowan will get to the basics or will even opt for a solitude.

It must be borne in mind that this opposition will last several months. Then Saturn will form a trine with the natal Sun-Mercury conjunction, which matches the austerity programme which will prompt her to improve her knowledge. McGowan is most unlikely to cease to amaze us.
