Stellium in Scorpio in the 12th House
Who would be surprised to learn that the 46th president of the United States is the archetype of Scorpio? His life made of ups and downs is already an indicator in itself. The man who was the youngest senator of America at 29 will also be the oldest president in the history of this country. A living paradox.
In the interval, Joe Biden had experienced many tragedies which would have disheartened quite a few. What must not be overlooked is the indestructible strength of this sign of Fire – or of molten lava – which develops in the most distressful trials.
Indeed, it is necessary to begin the analysis of this chart with the cluster of planets in Scorpio, namely, in zodiacal order, Mars, Mercury, the Sun, then Venus in tight conjunction at the end of the sign. They are all in the 12th House, a place traditionally related to adversity, affliction, some degree of solitude, assistance to people, and the end of things.
We shall not elaborate on Biden's misfortunes and sufferings, the accident which took the life of his first wife and of his daughter, then the death of his son Beau after a painful illness. It was not without reason that Biden meditated at his son's grave on the day of his victory. In addition, in 1988, he himself underwent a CVA which could have disabled him permanently. It is hard to find a personality who would embody better the symbols of the sign of Scorpio, which are death and renaissance, like the phoenix.
A Well-supported Midheaven (professional Destiny)
Biden has always prepared his comebacks behind the scenes, without saying anything. Probably power-hungry like those born with the Sun in the 8th sign, he had champed at the bit for a long time.
First of all, a certain Barack Obama stood on his way. Later on, as everyone knows, he became Obama's vice-president. It is clear that Biden does not have the same charisma as the flamboyant 44th President, but he can perfectly well take on this major role, thanks to his seriousness and his tenacity.
Once again, his qualities are obvious with respect to his solar sign. One of the main features of his social and professional career is outstanding, for the midheaven in Virgo is at the same time supported by Mercury and above all, by Jupiter in Cancer and in the 8th House. The latter planet offers definite good luck, financial security coming from inheritances – the 8th House rules "other people's money", the money not earned through one's own work – and the capacity to be resilient (sextile with the Midheaven). Since Mercury rules the Midheaven, and Jupiter rules the chart (meaning the Ascendant), these assets are instrumental in Biden's political success.
Ascendant in Sagittarius: Faith, Through Thick and Thin
The Ascendant in Sagittarius is the third asset explaining that Biden achieved his ultimate goal. Sagittarius, associated with faith and self-confidence, probably allowed Biden to see the light at the end of the tunnel each time he went through an ordeal.
Scorpios are somber, caught in the depths and the pangs of their complex thoughts; to the same extent, the 9th sign shoots at the stars, and is remarkable for its optimism. If one looks at the chart of the United States, one sees that the country – in any case the chart of the Declaration of Independence of 4 July 1776 – has the same Ascendant. In synastry, one may therefore notice a resonance between Biden's chart and that of America. It is most likely that people, Americans and foreigners alike, will find that Biden is more open and accommodating than Donald Trump, his predecessor.
We also observe that the Ascendant is in sextile with Neptune, who is posited in the 10th House, not in an angle, but in trine with Uranus. The future head of state believes that his reforms are in line with the well-known American dream. Undoubtedly, he will get the support of the people who feel close to him and to his ideals.
Saturn and Uranus: Confined in Some Solitude
However, one must not get carried away, because these two planets are facing the Ascendant in Sagittarius, and they are able to throw a wrench in the works. On the cusp of the Descendant, Uranus in the mobile sign of Gemini is quite ominous despite everything, for he is in opposition with the Sun and with Venus, and in conjunction with Saturn. It is in his dealings that Biden may unexpectedly change his mind. He may also undergo splits or very blunt reversals (Uranus), sometimes synonymous with break-ups.
It is certain that this aspect is characteristic of what was said above, i.e. his personal tragedy, particularly that which marked the end of his first marriage. Nevertheless, it does carry a type of uncontrollable energy in all Biden's social intercourse.
Saturn is less involved, although he brings about a risk of cooldown or of a flat refusal in the occasion of certain contacts. In foreign affairs, therefore, at least potentially, Biden may be in danger of eliciting reactions of mistrust, after having first imposed a smiling Sagittarius image which does not necessarily correspond with the results expected regarding future agreements or reforms.
In an entirely different register, nevertheless, the Moon in exaltation in Taurus in the 5th House slightly softens the picture. She counterbalances the dark sides of Biden's solar ego by adding simplicity and genuine empathy. This is actually what emerges from the numerous testimonies of those who met his path. They remarked his calm, his amicability, and the fact that he never lost his temper.
Albeit it is most likely that he was emotionally shattered in his life, he kept it to himself, without showing anything. Moreover, the Moon shows Biden's bon-viveur nature, relishing the comfort of beautiful things; for example, he appreciated that he could purchase a splendid dwelling after he received nearly 8 million dollars for a publishing contract. The Moon in the 5th House urges him to enjoy life to compensate for the rainy days.
While he aspires to serenity, he heeded his duty and his political ideals rather than this facet of his true self.
In the End, Pluto Imposes His Law
Last but not least, Pluto has the final say. He forms a nice trine with the Ascendant, and he has a stranglehold on the stellium in Scorpio of the chart. In addition, there is a mutual reception between the Sun in the 8th sign and the position of Pluto in Leo. If needed, this fact confirms once again that whatever happens, Biden undeniably possesses the exceptional resources required to overcome trials and to concretely fulfill his ambitions.
Will this be sufficient for the success of the new tremendous responsibility ahead of him? We shall know soon, if we watch him at work on 20 January 2021, his Inauguration Day.
