Leo-aquarius Axis or Individual Demand Facing the Social Dimension
Does the world's most famous novelist possess a special natal chart? To begin with, we note that she has the Sun in Leo and the Ascendant in Aquarius. Therefore, the meaning of this axis is highly relevant. It represents above all the dilemma of finding one's social place among people, while keeping one's own individuality.
Her life path as well as that of the hero who brought her celebrity, Harry Potter, are related to this challenge.
Born into a modest family in Yate, in Gloucestershire, Joanne Rowling is marked out by her intellectual qualities. We shall get back to this below. What we can assume is a desire to assert her Leo personality and to shine in spite of obstacles.
After university studies leading to a degree in French literature, Rowling started to work as a teacher first. This occupation corresponds perfectly well to her innate sense of education. Indeed, the sign of Leo is above all synonymous with apprenticeship through creativity. The point is not anymore to nurse a newborn infant like Cancer, the sign preceding Leo, but to understand life through play in order to gain authority. Aquarius, at the other end of axis, implies the idea of success with a dose of originality. In Rowling's chart, the Ascendant opposite the Sun continuously reminds her that she must position herself differently, regardless of her fondness for Leo's classical values.
Very Highlighted Virgo Visible Throughout Life
Having made these first assessments, we also note that in the natal chart, Virgo is extremely highlighted. Its influence amounts to nearly 38%, which is considerable. Indeed, it is in this sign alone that we find five planets, including three personal planets as well as the ruler of the chart, not to mention its ruler Mercury, in domicile, who gives an impression of absolute precision and mastery to Rowling's texts. For that reason, we must ponder over what Virgo represents for this author, since for her everything starts from there.
Once she achieved a worldwide fame which probably delights the heart of her Leo component, Rowling's life became known by everybody. Her path has been fraught with pitfalls that she overcame one after the other until the publication of the first volume of the Harry Potter saga in 1996.
Distressed by family issues, Rowling was not doing well. Her mother suffered from multiple sclerosis, she had to part with a sometimes-violent husband, and she underwent financial hardship. Seven years after her university graduation, she felt that her life was a disaster, according to her own words. However, she wrote at night, almost everywhere, determined to find a way out of the gloom which made her sink into depression.
Virgo Again, Related to Academic Circles
What is interesting from an astrological standpoint is that she had in mind the unfoldment of the whole saga, which will include eight volumes, when she drafted the first sentences. In addition to Virgo, it is worth stressing that in the chart, Gemini – standing for literature and journalism – is strong because Jupiter trines Mars, an aspect pertaining to go-getters or company managers. These Mercury-ruled signs and the energy to undertake certainly explain the creative, fertile, and dense imagination pervading Rowling's works.
She used several very vivid childhood memories to define the social and family ties of her hero. We see again the fruits of her personal school experiences in the description of her characters' expectations. Hogwarts epitomizes some sort of ideal she would have liked to find.
Hermione Granger for instance is a Miss Know-all thirsting for knowledge who spares no effort to be number one. This is a typical creature of a well-expressed Virgo, for despite her initially slightly dry, surly, and abrupt image, she proves loyal and serious. She is the friend on which people can rely.
Harry Potter, the Archetype of the Virgo Hero, Once Again
As for Harry Potter, he could also be the archetype of the Virgo hero. Rowling portrays him as frail, puny, pale, and quite sickly. While obviously these peculiarities are not too flattering, they match those of Virgo in its challenging version.
Over the pages, Potter develops all the qualities of Virgo, namely astuteness, razor-sharp intelligence, modesty, and desire to persevere. These attributes enable him to subdue his fears and his shyness and to meet his objectives.
He even realizes that he is talented in sport, Quidditch, which establishes his self-confidence. In fact, the whole plot of the saga invites us to discover Potter's personality in quest for brilliance and truth.
Although he aspires to a simple life, very Virgo, Potter the anti-hero is anything but banal.
The same parallel can be drawn with Rowling. The ordinary teacher, long considered to be an author unable to succeed, enjoys a global celebrity that she could never have imagined and is snowed under with honors.
Moreover, she has become one of the wealthiest persons of the United Kingdom, has met with the Queen, and was named Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in France.
Several Aspects Sent to the Midheaven and Hectic Destiny
It is useful to look into the Midheaven, because even though the chart has no planet in the 10th House, the angle itself receives many aspects, i.e. a trine from the Sun but also four squares from Uranus, Pluto, Venus, and Saturn.
All this foreshadows a destiny where Rowling can seize the opportunity to shine (the trine to the Sun) far beyond her original background (Sagittarius), provided that she overcomes a host of challenges (squares). As is often the case, her harsh aspects prompt her to action, while a trine alone might have incited her to rest on her laurels.
Nevertheless, there is an uncertainty of approximately one hour about her birthtime. She said that the Ascendant is in Aquarius, but her exact birthtime is unknown. This is why the aspects mentioned above ought to be taken with caution.
Transits to Watch Out For
Today, Rowling keeps on exploring the huge possibilities of her imagination and of her creativity. Jupiter transiting her MC in 2019 indicates that she can still amaze us, expand her success, and reach new horizons. During the summer of 2019, she is scheduled to release four e-books based on the matters learned at Hogwarts. Thus, she remains in the very Aquarius fantasy genre and at the same time sticks to the Virgo features that we just enumerated.
Furthermore, she now devotes herself to the cinema and enriches the world of sorcerers with new heroes. Fantastic Beats 1 and 2 are already very popular. She is contemplating a third film, to be shot in Brazil. Probably the positive influence of Jupiter. It is necessary as well to point out that transiting slow-moving planets, Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn, agree with Rowling's five planets in Virgo. She is simply strengthening the edifice of her already impressive works. And that is good for the millions of her admirers.
