Well-positioned Sagittarius Sun: Helping Hand

Mentioning Frank Sinatra goes hand in hand with the principle of an idealized America, playground of all possibilities. Today, the little lad from New Jersey who started from scratch still remains a myth 23 years after his death. He was an excellent singer – the greatest singer of the century according to some people – as well as a gifted actor and movie producer.

He came from a class of immigrants and grew up in an area with numerous ethnic mixes. Sinatra dropped out of school at 15, without any diploma. Therefore, it is obvious that he needed some good luck, in addition to his talent, to reach this level of worldwide success.

Owing to this, it is not surprising that he was born with the Sun in Sagittarius, a sign which thinks big and enabled him to seize numerous opportunities as well as to venture into unknown lands fearlessly. This is all the more true that the Sun is in tight conjunction with Mercury in the 2nd House, that of self-worth and money earned.

Actually, Sinatra became a millionaire at only 30, which allowed him to fully enjoy all the advantages of success in the field of show business of those days. In other words, he made the most of what nature offered him, an exceptional voice, despite a hearing problem occurring when he was very young, which could have limited the scope of his career.

Indeed, he did not doubt anything, it was even quite the contrary. This is explained by the square Jupiter (the ruler of Sagittarius) in Pisces forms with the Sun-Mercury duet, which endows Sinatra with exaggerated but helpful optimism and a dash of recklessness, fortunately controlled by his trine with Saturn, because in a chart, the harmonious Jupiter-Saturn pair enables to adapt oneself easily to society.

If we add the fact that Mars and the Midheaven are in Leo, we already have the confirmation that nothing can stop this show business giant.

Nowadays, he remains among the musicians whose albums were best-selling in the world. However, it must be underlined that he spared no effort, with the typical energy of the Sun and Mars in Fire signs. During entire decades, he kept on going on many tours, playing at the same time in many films directed by the greatest filmmakers of Hollywood's golden age.

Neptune on the Midheaven: Talent and Inspiration

To explain this extraordinary destiny, the astrologer must not overlook the influence of Neptune in Leo. Neptune has the starring role, in conjunction with the Midheaven with an orb of only one degree. This planet represents the capacity to attract and touch a wide audience in a subtle way. It is often found in the dominants of the charts of artists having this type of qualities.

However, prevailing Neptune is in opposition – with a wide orb - with Uranus in Aquarius and in the 4th House (the home, the roots).

In our opinion, this aspect is one of the keys of the theme and helps to understand Sinatra's path. On the one hand, Uranus illustrates the fact that he probably felt a stranger within his own family, which prompted him to undertake everything in order to get away from it. Indeed, he was drawn to the artistic career represented by Neptune as if it were a magnet. On the other hand, owing to this opposition, it is most likely that Sinatra was responsible for the links he would have maintained with a quite peculiar "family", i.e. the mafia, although he always denied it, including in front of judges.

Ascendant in Libra: a Lady-killer

How would anyone be astonished to learn that the crooner had the Ascendant in Libra, he who had a praised velvet voice and who would charm as naturally as he would breathe? In addition to his countless conquests and the fact that he has married four times, the episode of his passionate romance with the gorgeous Ava Gardner remains vivid in everyone's memory.

She was the seductress par excellence, and he dedicated an explicit song to her, I'm a Fool to Want You. Venus, ruler of the chart, is in Capricorn, confirming that behind his way of charming, he was both distrustful and seeking a lasting relationship. However, Venus being in opposition with Pluto and particularly with Saturn, romances sometimes ended in failure or in disappointment.

Getting back to the Ascendant, we note the square with Neptune, who points to some potential disillusions, even though the aspect is not exact since Neptune is in the beginning of Leo, a sign in harmony with Libra.

Ambiguous Moon in Pisces: Elusive Character

Let us look at the Moon in Pisces who intervenes in the programme to add her personal touch. Sensitive, but evasive too, bewitching and slightly masochistic, the Moon contributes to give a final universal polish to Sinatra's music. With Strangers in the Night or My Way, his most famous songs, he could deeply stir the heart of people.

However, this luminary is in front of a vigorous Mars in Leo. Here again, the aspect is not in opposite signs (there is a gap). In spite of that, it remains true that the artist would let himself be led by his impulses and did not control them.

Besides, Denis Lépée, one of his biographers, told in his book "Frank Sinatra, an American Dream", many anecdotes describing Sinatra's character as aggressive, maniac, lunatic, with a well-known dishonesty.

This author also insists on the parallel between the personage of the Godfather, Johnny Fontane, who is somehow the double of Sinatra. His taste for alcohol and gambling is perhaps caused by the watery Moon, easily influenced, and at the same time by Jupiter in square with the Sun, excess; these two configurations are typical of the small possible skids of Pisces.

Anyway, Sinatra remains a legend. Ultimately, it is Neptune culminating in Leo who symbolizes the American dream and prevails over many other facets of the personality.
