Louise Bourgeois (French pronunciation: /luiz buʁʒwa/; 25 December 1911 – ; 31 May 2010) was a renowned French-American artist and sculptor, best known for the spider structures, titled Maman. These pieces led to her being nicknamed Spiderwoman. Her career spanned at least seven decades. She is thought to have been the founder of confessional art, and influenced the feminist movement as well as modern artists such as Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin.
