Kelis Rogers-Jones (born Kelis Rogers on August 21, 1979), professionally known as Kelis, is an American R&B singer and songwriter. Height 5' 10" (1.78 m) Kelis was born and raised in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City. Her first name, pronounced , is a combination of the name of her father Kenneth and of her mother Eveliss. Kenneth is an African-American jazz musician, a Pentecostal minister, and a professor at Wesleyan University. Eveliss is a Chinese-Puerto Rican fashion designer, who inspired Kelis to pursue her singing career.
