Robert Frederick Xenon Geldof, known as Bob Geldof (born 5 October 1951) , is an Irish singer, songwriter, actor and political activist. Early career Geldof was born in Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin, in the Republic of Ireland, to parents of Catholic extraction. His father was also known as Bob; at the age of 41 his wife, the mother of Robert "Bob" complained of a headache and died shortly thereafter, having suffered a haemorrage. As of 2005, his father Bob is in his 90s. He attended Blackrock College, near Dublin, a school whose staunch Catholic nationalist ethos he disliked.
